good box for PG sub??
hey all.. i just got a free Phoenix Gold QX12 sub from a friend of mine and can't find any info on it anywhere... so wus hopin for some help on box type and size..
ported, sealed, or bandpass...
ported, sealed, or bandpass...
According to the sub specs on the other thread, I would put it in a ported box. I know I told you a good box is very important, but it looks like you will not be keeping this PG, so don't waste your money, and get any cheap box for now anywhere from 1.5-2.0 cubes or something, and the frequency is listed on that spec sheet. Do not go nuts, and get the box which is tuned lower than 32 hz at this size. It will tie you over. Oh, and if you have space limitations - go sealed 1.0-1.5 cubes. Won't be as loud though.
If your upcoming Perfects are in good shape, a good box will make a big difference. If you want to give them proper power like 1kw, I would suggest to get a custom box made through a reputable box maker, and get a good used box, which fits your application. The reason for a good box is that if you have so much power, cheap stuff like Bassworkx will sound like poo. They are cheaply made, thats why they are cheap. Technically they will take 1kw, but will not sound good at it. Thats my advise. If the box is garbage, the sound will be garbage, even if you have good speakers, and good amp. BTW, this PG looks kinda low end. You surely will not be keeping it long, if you like your music.
