How can I get more cone displacement without adding more Vb? I'm already out of room. Is it possible? I know more power .... but I'm already 200 - 400 rms each past JL's thermal power rating.

Not too familiar with going that route. I just want to get the 3 subs I have now to move closer to 14mm (peaks a little over 16mm) so when the stiffening happens they aren't only moving 4 mm. My last ported box I burnt a coil because the sub barely moved at its port frequency. Then again I was only using a 800a2 at that time.

In BB6P, vented box w/ active HP EQ filter - there is a box that reads:

Active 12 dB/oct. High Pass EQ Filter

Fx = 30 hz - this will be my subsonic setting correct?
Qx = ? What is this for? It says "Q of the active HP EQ filter." If I even set it to 1 the cone excursion goes nuts and the vent air velocity through the roof.... How do I know what my Q is?

Anyone have any idea about the "Q" of a HP crossover? This Bassbox graph difference is concerning to say the least.

I need to find out what this Xover Q is and how it works before I build this box... Q=0 graphs above(pg1 - good), Q=2 graphs below - not good...

This is a huge difference!!, set to 3 or 4 is even worse. Does anyone know how this works??

BRG - Yes, it will look a little like yours. Same kind of idea, just right at the back and once the amps are covered I'll be glassing a complete cover to the sides of the van.

That box is right at the back door....I was going to make a cover for the amps but when the liftgate was down it fit perfectly against the top edge of the box and still left room for airflow around the amps.....

At first view it looked further in, after my post I saw how far back it was. It is a nice box. Wish I could hear it. There's JL's in there right?

BRG ... any idea on my above "Q" problems?? lol, it's driving me nuts.

IIRC the 'Q' of a equalizer refers to the width of frequencies covered around the center point.....ie. center point is 40hz for 'bass boost' .....if 'Q' equals 1 control affects 35hz to 45hz, if 'Q' equals 2 control affects 30hz to 50hz.

It sounds like the Q you are seeing is some variance in the subsonic HP filter configuration....thats just a guess, but if the HP filter is "wider" for lack of a better way of putting it, it may cause the sub to start unloading from the box at lower power levels, thus accounting for the excursion increase and the port velocity going up so fast........

Hopefully someone with more Bass Box experience than me can help clarify this....now you have me wondering too.......

hmmmm ... O.K. THANKS!!.... I was familiar with Q just not how it could pertain to a subsonic filter.

So, I don't use bass boost at all, and neither my amp or deck have a Q control for the sub boost. Therefore, my first set of graphs (Qx=0 in BB6P) should be right? Or could there be some factory set Q? ..... or does it ONLY matter if I use Bass boost?

Really need a smilie for pulling hair out.

I remember in another forum someone was taking about this Q thing. After a bunch of big words and intense theories, it stood that you should leave it as 0

BTW, you need to burn me a copy of this program and send it to me via canadian post because i really wanna try out this program
