1 JL W6V2 vs Two Apline 12" Type R
sorry , but we have a guy that has torn the surrounds off of three sets of r10s,the dealer keeps on replacing them for him cuz he knows we will get him into JBL as soon as he doesnt warranty them.hes running a bp600.1, and a factory spec sealed enclosure , dual chamber, one inch mdf, internally braced, gotta say it, overrated... He's running a bp600. An amp without a ssf. Does he know enough not to abuse frequencies below the enclosure tuning? Likely not.
For the price point Type R's are pretty decent performer's.
Like I said, there's a difference between a speaker design that is bad and a bad installer.
After destroying the first pair I would check for the reason behind it. There's too many people out there satified with the performance of their Type R's.

Never mind the speaker cookbook defro- it dosent cover the stuff I was talking about anyway...
If you want to see some references to what Iam talking about here is something from adire about XBL^2 BL linearity...

I can't think of anything online about distorion caused by inductance right now... nor do I feel like searching...
But if you actually want to learn something you might try reading about the w7 motor, maybe look up how dumax, kipple, ect.. tests are done and what they mean...
This thread really got pissed all over... so I'll chime out by saying that Knowing LINEAR Xmax tells you a good deal of what you need to know about a woofers 'sq'... IMO anyway...

The Alpine E's are an entry level sub. The R is not.
They are clean and can go loud. Any sub can fail in almost any application.
I don't run Alpine subs currently and have not in the past. I may try out the Type X in the near future but who knows?
You said you cooked two sets. How and why? I have put together competitive systems for clients that have not "cooked" anything yet. It's been 6-9 months and 3-9 shows and they are still going strong, playing loud and sounding great.
