You need one of two harness to PROPERLY install a new stereo in this vehicle. One is called a factory relocation harness and is under the $100 retail mark. It moves the factory radio to the rear of vehicle and keep the GM Class II databus circuit intact. It is basically a T harness, it plugs in up front into the factory harness that unplugs from the radio. Another end of the T has the new plug for the new radio, while the long end of the harness is the one that heads to the back of the car (where there is room to hide the factory head unit behind the trunkliner above the wheel wells). This is a little more install time but is a simple task.
The second harness, under $200.00 retail, allows complete removal of the factory headunit. It has a circuit board in it that is basically a copy of the circuity in the factory radio that allows the GM Class II databux circuit to operate properly. It installs in the dash and the module for it is easy to hide.

Or if you have a standard stereo in the Sunfire, you can just buy the regular wiring kit and lose your chimes and your music while the door is closed (when you shut the car off). And no, it will NOT affect your airbags, ABS, or anything else. Thay are about 15$ and yes they do work...

Then just go to a audio shop and get the mounting kit you need
in order to wire the t harness like rob said, u still need to wire an ignition wire into the column (right way) or go to the fuse box for it...along with the T harness or relocation kit you will need obviously a dash kit but also an antenna adaptor like with most GMs, when installing it id recomend iso mounting the deck to the dash kit instead of caging it, using the cage can get very dificult to slide the radio in properly, there are also two thin plastic vertical bars that can be cut for added room...if its ur car and u dont mind doing it id go for it, the one on the left at least enjoy
Bad Advise?
I wish people wouldn't recommend going without the proper kit or going without chimes. The chimes are there for a reason.
I wonder how many people lock the keys in the car, or drain the battery from leaving lights on etc. because they didn't spend the 100 bucks for an interface.
I thought this forum was to give/get good advice. Not trash.
Just my opinion, and you know what opioions are like, everybody has one.
