2006 Jeep Commander buildup.

So, here is the start of the first monster job of the year. Of course it also drops in our lap when I am short staffed (any darn good installers with a slow couple of weeks, drop me a line like pronto). It is going to encompass a crapload of Focal, Eclipse and Zapco.

Eclipse gear will be headed by the AVN7000 dvd nav unit, the DCU105 surround sound unit, TVR105 tv tuner, SIRECL1 satellite tuner, BEC105 backup camera and finally the IPC106 Ipod interface.

Front stage will be Focal 165 K3P in each door + an additional midbass driver. So each door is slated for two 6.75" midbass drivers in a sealed box and a 6.75" midrange driver. The tweeters are headed to the factory dashboard location for now. We'll see how they sound there first. The center channel will be the same 165K2P set that the K3P is comprised of. The dashboard was a little interesting to remove but it's on it's way to being reworked already. The rear door are receiving Focal 165KF speakers with pointsource mounted tweeters. Another set of 165KF speakers is destined for the rear of the vehicle for use when the rear hatch is opened for the overhead screen and Xbox360. Supplying the bottom end will be a pair of Focal 46KX4 18" quad coil subs in a nice large ported enclosure, now you see the work being done on the midbass drivers up front. A nice load of Brown Bread is already being installed with some Black Hole products on top of that. Must keep things nice and rattle free (right, the thing has 18's going into it).

Power is going to come from a pile of Zapco Competition amplifiers and quite possibly my new but old original Soundstream Tarantula. Chances are that it may not be used, time will tell when we get back there. So the rear seats are gone bye bye. Finish is going to be glass with color matched paint and color matched leather + chrome plating. Lots of work to do in the next month. I'll take lots of pics as we go and when time allows, I'll learn how to post them to the site.

Wow that sounds like a nice setup, I didn't know that Focal made 18's, let alone quad coil ones! www.photobucket.com is your friend, if you don't have time you can email me the pics and I can size them down for you and post them up on here.

Whoa, sounds like you landed a BIG fish Rob! You will be probably one of only a few to actually use those 18s, let alone 2. What's the estimated budget on that whole badboy? Gotta be close to the purchase price of the Commander itself eh?

I'm always curious how big projects come in like that. Was it just a guy off the street or customer you guys have dealt with? Out of towner who heard good things?

It took me over an hour just to get the dashboard out of this thing. Why it could not be easier, who knows but it will make the center channel grill / mount that much easier to build. Estimate is about $30K right now but the labour is going to add up really fast. Customer is new to town and went to the other stores first before one of the stores referred him to me. Is he going to compete? I really don't know. I would think that it is just for him. Before I post any pictures (or send them to Ross, thanks btw), I will get approval from my customer. Mind you if he competes, he's going to have pics taken anyways.
