6.5 Component Decision

I heard this year model of the Hertz Hsk-165 (Orange Cones) Wow I couldn't believe the sound. I thought there was a sub also running on display. Salesman offered to sell me last year model of the Hsk-165 that had been demoed for 215.00 out the door. He also said the new model has improved drastically. Should I jump on this deal for used speakers that I haven't heard and retail $399.00 new?

I'm also considering about getting the Focal Access 165a http://www.focal-america.com/ and was wondering if these would be comparable with the new Hertz Hsk165 components?

Well I'll try again to help someone save some money. If you're going with a two way system the combination of the Mach5Audio MLI-65 and the TangBand 25-1719S Tweeter can not be beat. The mid will run you $27 each and the tweeter will run under $30 per. EQ the MLI-65 at about 15-200 and 1250 -2 db and you're golden. The tweeter can be easily cutoff at 3khz and rocks "on and off-axis" which will give you a very nice relaxed sound with loads of mid-bass for a set under $115. GL with whatever you chose.

P.S: You may or may not need to add an L-pad for the tweeter in the neighbourhood of -2db, but that's entirely up to you.

I'm currently using the HSK mid (older version) in my 3-way system and wouldn't have it any other way!

My preferance is to the older model. As long as they honor the manufacturer warranty I'd go for them.

How old are your Hertz? I've told not to buy used speakers. Thats the only thing stopping me. They would give me a 1 yr warranty

Unfortunately not, to add more bad news as well, solen has sold out of the tandband tweets as well. Mach5 is moving to a bigger location so mid April they should be back in stock, the tweeters on the other hand can be had at partsExpress or MAdisound. You will not be dissappointed with either purchase.

The HSK sound much better than the Access line IMO. Have a listen to both.

The access line is Focal's entry line while the HSK's are a little further up the Hertz ladder.

The Hertz sound very nice and smooth.

I heard about 30 6.5" Hertz (dunno the model) at EHR, they sounded crystal clear I couldn't believe it. They had a thin orange colored surround and were blueish cones. Get the cheaper ones and if you don't like them switch up.
