Provided that you have something to separate the front of the speaker from the back, go for it. If you are just plunking them down on the seat and expecting them to work, well don't expect stellar results. The parcel shelf of a car serves much like the front baffle of a box. It then uses the trunk as the box and keeps the rear pressure wave from interacting with the front pressure wave, this increases the tonal response (primarily in the bottom end) exponentially.
