I currently own an Alpine CDA-7995 MP3/CD player. I bought it used and finally got around to installing it. It's a deck that has no internal amp so i've got my Zapco AG360 connected to my front and rear outputs and my MMATS D200hc connected to the subout. Everytime the i turn the volume up from 0 i get a thump from the sub.Also it seems as if the sub preout isn't pushing 4v. When i hook up the front/rear preout to the sub amp it all works fine but when i use the sub out the sub doesn't push as near as it does when i hook it up to the front/rear output. Any idea's?

 

do you get a pop when you change tracks too
i find it is usually the rca ground output of the rca has been fried
try grounding the rca output to the radio chassis and see if the problem goes away

 

It is because Alpine has lied about their voltage on the sub RCA. The front and rear RCA's are indeed 4V, but the sub is only 2V.

I hooked up an Audiocontrol Matrix to the three sets of preouts on an Alpine 7894 that I had. It has LED's to show what voltage is being output from the Matrix. To get the sub to match the front and rear I had to turn the gain up twice as much.

There have been other discussions about Alpine and their sub out voltages if you care to do a search. The consensus is that the output is indeed very week for the sub channel on most of their decks.

thats not what i wanted to hear but i guess your right. Looks like i'm in the market for a line driver or a nice eq. I'll try to ground the rca's to chasis hopefully that will get rid of that thump. Very dissapointed to here this about alpine's preout voltage. I really like the deck. Well at least i'll have a good signal going to the amp!!

 

I understand what you are saying, but there is something "bad" with it if you pay for 4 volts and get 2, though(regardless of brand). There are 2 sides to this, the performance piece(which may not be a huge issue) and the "getting what you pay for piece" which could be more aggravating for people.

My comment is not meant as a knock specifically against alpine(although I have seen this complaint several times on different forums), but it is meant more as a comment on what consumers should expect in general. This has been discussed at length in many threads on the different forums.
