i agree with ya duke on how the boxes very from what is on the page. however. after a lot of toying and building and vise versa. ya get a preaty good feel for what does and doesn't work. i do however agree with ya 100% on the whole ported makes for great sq. after all what do you see most of the best home theater subs using! talk to ya latter.

heres my questions how does the sound of a properly designed and built ported box differ from that of a sealed?

My experience has been simply more bass from the ported box. The profile for the last box I designed had 5 more dB at 40 Hz and around 3 at 30 Hz. No hump either. Just more 'area under the curve'.

I am a firm believer in ported as well. Right now however, I am running a 1.5 cubic foot sealed box for my soloX 12" - the first and only sealed box I have ever run (in my own car) in my 14 years as an installer/enthusiast. It was supposed to be temporary but I am really growing to like the sound and nominal SPL that is coming from it.

I will still be building a ported box for my sub though - most likely it will be louder and still sound good.

Back on Topic...tell us how the Type X performs ! I have a few at my shop but I have never used one yet.
