Amp for JBL 660Gti

Hello,

I have two sets of JBL 660Gti installed in the front & rear. Could someone please recommend a 4 Channel amp for these speakers?

JBL 660Gti is rated at 300W RMS for each set, 600W Peak

Should I buy an amp that is rated at 150W RMS X 4? If I get a 4 channel amp rated at 200W RMS X 4, would it damage tweeter or woofer?

Please advise.

Why would a 200 watt amp damage a 300 watt rated speaker? One thing damages speakers, distortion. This is why you hear that underpowering a speaker will blow it. Its not the lack of power, its that you have to crank the amp into distortion in order to get your desired volume. IE: if you buy a 500 watt amp, with the volume all the way down, your amp is putting out 0 watts. As you increase your volume the number of watts goes up. A "weaker" amp just doesnt go as high as a more powerful amp. (I hope that makes sense).

With that said, what is your price range. I would get the best amp that you can afford. You can spend anywhere from $200 up to thousands. A few good middle of the line amps are:
Boston Acoustics GT-42 WoofersEtc.com - GT-42 - Boston Acoustics 4 Ch. 700 Watt Amplifier
JL AUdio HD600/4 WoofersEtc.com - HD600/4 - JL Audio 4 Channel 600 Watt HD Amplifier
Soundstream REF4.760 WoofersEtc.com - REF4.760 - Soundstream 4 Ch. 760 Watt RMS Class A/B Reference Series Power Amplifier

Im sure others will have suggestions. I have had good luck with JL audio.

I was looking at JL HD600/4. I really like this one. JBL 660Gti, each speaker is rated at 150W RMS. JLHD600/4 is rated at 150W RMS X 4. With this setup this should be pretty loud.

My 2nd option:

Buy a 400W RMS 2-Channel amp for front speakers, 200W RMS for each 660Gti speaker. Buy a second 400W RMS 2-Channel amp for rear speakers. Instead of 150W RMS for each, I will power each speaker with 200W RMS, that's an additional 50W RMS. I was a bit worried that may damage speakers.

I can't decide which option would be the best? Would I notice a big difference in sound if I buy two 2-Channel amps instead of one 4 Channel amp?

I think I am just going to go with JL HD600/4.

Thank you for your input
