Question

Ok.. so I'm getting confused as all hell with my D3.

Here's the situation. My regular set up is a jbl 600.1 with a Kicker L5. Bumps pretty good, but it's not really going to do anything in a competition.

So I replaced all of that with 2 Inhumans and a D3.

The first time I hooked it all up I was really dissapointed. So I checked it out and the driver impedance isn't down as low as the D3's apparnetly like to go (1Ohm). I figure with the higher impedance and the stiffness of the sub.. ect ect maybe that's why I wasn't getting the output I was expecting. I also figured that I had never tested the Inhumans out with another amp so I don't really know what to expect from them.

SO.. yesterday I figure why not try the D3 on my single L5 (2Ohms) .. I hook it all up and the output on it is BRUTAL. I mean, the 600.1 is easily a hell of a lot louder than the D3.

Can anyone shed some light or maybe give me an idea of where I should start to look for problems? The amp does work. The power light is on and when I crank the volume THEN it gets loud. But still.. to get a decent bump out of the D3 I have to turn the HU up to about 25, whereas the JBL will do the same at about 15.

what vehicle is it going in? Could be your alternator is strong enough to power the amp. Check the spec's on your alternator to see if it can produce enough voltage.

Olds Achieva.. new alt last spring (105 amps) ... but still, I should be getting more output even if I'm just running off the battery.

btw.. I forgot to mention this before but it has nothing to do with gains. My HU has 4V pre-outs and to really get ANYTHING out of the amp I have the gains at 1/2

I would try a line-driver personally, my deck is supposed to have 4 volt preouts, but I use a line-driver anyways. Apart from that, I am not sure....

Not really familiar with that amp, what is the output on it? I know it's a crazy amp...

What happens if you hook up the 600.1 to an inhuman? Just to make sure, it could be the amp itself.

What gauge power wire and fuse size are you using?

Well the idea of a line driver is a good one, but this amp is supposed to take 4v MAX. So I don't really see why I should need to turn the gains up to 1/2 to get any real power out of it.

I don't see the JBL putting out that much power with an amp that uses low pre-out voltage where the Earthquake which likes the lower voltage would suck.

The D3 should probably put out over 1kw of power at 2Ohms, if not 2kw. Either way it should destroy my little 600w JBL.

Oh.. I have 1/0 guage with a 300a fuse going to the back of the car. From there I have a distro block that sends 4g. out to the amp. That run is about 6"-8".

The ground is 4g also, and that's 8"-10"

I think I'm going to try one of my D2's later today to see what that does.
