I have this horrid ignition whine coming from the front channels...
I have pinpointed it down to this Pyramid amp I am running...
I have been told by one person that it's just the way the amp is..others have told me to mount the thing to wood...well...was mounted to wood when I first got it,made no diff...
Someone else said to relocate it...where?
Another told me to try body grounding one of grounds on the RCA..how?which one?huh?LOL
Someone else told me to run a seperate feed for the signal rather than off the ignition...from where?
This amp is pre-wired with like 16 g wire which makes me wonder if it has a good enough internal ground to it...could I possibly open it up,and rewire it with heavier wire?

Any thoughts on this?I am planning on taking a trip to Winnipeg(16 hrs driving),and I would like to cure this problem before the trip to have some clear tunes to listen too...

Now..

Barring solving that problem,I can get amps a low cost through work...
PYLE
PYRAMID
LEGACY

Any of these any good?

I'm a little afraid to try Pyramid again, but who knows...

Yeah,I know..."Cheap stuff!!"...but on my budget,I have to go cheap cheap cheap...free even where possible...I'm already taking food off the table to try and make the trip and get this system going...

If I can get some thoughts and opinions on these,I would be very greatful..or even better,if someone has a small amp they might want to maybe trade or sell at a low low price, let me know..

Talk to you soon!

Thanks in advance!!

I wouldn't take the amp apart.
Check all the power and grounds for good, clean contact. If that doesn't help make sure the amp is not bolted to the steel of the car in any way (that's why they said to mount it to wood). Next try moving power wires away from any ignition modules under the hood or in the cabin. Then try moving rca's in the cabin away from any other wires they are close to.
Hopefully one of these will do it.

sounds like a ground loop
some active signal processors will break that loop.. (some will make it worse)
is everything grounded to the same place?
resonable quality rca's?
rca's run seperate from power wires?

Cool

wow, well, the only thing i can think of is to go back to basics, in otherwords, start from scratch, is the install clean, or messy, what youl want to do is pull it all out, and start again, this way youll be sure its not your install. its cheap and relitivly easy. if your rca's are old replace them, they can get kinked, and the wires in them are usualy small (24-32 awg) and can induct electro-magnetic waves quite easily.

Start with the grounds, select a 12" area that they will be located in and remove all of the paint and make sure it is really clean. Attach each ground to the clean area and have them all evenl spaced apart, DO NOT ground them all at the same point.
when you run your rca's make sure to run them by themselves. dont run them with the power wires for the amps, and don't run them aywhere near the harness of the car. this is very important. and if they must cross, do it at 90 degrees. if this dosn't work take it to a shop and have them use a noise "sniffing" device to see where the radiated noise is coming from. just make sure to take good care on your install and do a neat clean proffesional looking job, and it shold go away.....i hope

I was afarid someone was going to say start from scratch...

I noticed something today..I ran the ground for the Pyramid to a seperate ground..took a huge amount of noise away while in 8 track mode...but when in cd mode,I get a huge amount of whine still, but it doesnt sound like ign. whine...I unplugged my RCA;s from the cd deck and the noise disappeared..plug back in.noise comes back...

also..before installing the 8 track, had fronts wired to speaker outs on the cd..now..both cd and 8 track run to a double throw switch, then from there thru a RCA x cable to the rear...where it splits off to the two amps...the mtx for subs and Pyramid for the frts.....

Rob thinks it may have something to to do with the wiring we used and/or the swith itself...

your thoughts?

I will try a few other things people have suggested,then...sigh.....I will rip it all out and start from scratch...sigh...

Thanks for all the input.'Preciate it!!
