I'm just saying that if it's a 5441, he's getting royally ripped. It cost me $160CDN all told for one of those.

The 54410 might be worth it though. Keep in mind, they both sound good but are completely different units.

Aww, poor guy doesn't have a trim ring. Boo hoo.

JK. Hey, offer the guy $150 and tell him you know from a reputable source that's how much they're worth.

That shouldn't disuade you from buying that deck...ask them to knock off a couple bucks and stop buy an Eclipse dealer. Chances are they'll have those two peices lying about. I may be a huge Alpine fan but if there was another head unit to own it would be Eclipse!

Do you have the 5441 or the cd5441? They are different head units(confusing, I know).

The skipping issue you speak of was solved before 01-02 and certainly is not a problem. With the exception of the skip and blip problem(99-00 I believe), Eclipse has been a VERY reliable brand for the local shop. I have never heard of an older eclipse having ESN lock up for no reason. They have had a few issues with some of their '03 8 volt decks, but that has been fixed. There is an alpine/clarion dealer 2 hours from here who has had less than impressive reliability Alpine(and my best friend went through 2 7863s..each lasted about 6 months..and I guess he thought he would have a reliable deck). A good friend of mine works at that shop, and he said, of a particular Alpine model(believe it is the 9807), "for every one we sell, we have to have another one in stock to replace it because it will come back broken."

I have used Eclipse decks for 10 years, and the reliability has been excellent(and they just sound great).

The original poster can make up his own mind, but Eclipse certainly are not unreliable decks(again, the skip and blip saga sucked, but that has long since been fixed). My 8053 has not skipped yet, and my last eclipse(cd8051) skipped maybe 3-4 times in 18 months of ownership. I can live with that.

I think when you buy a deck, for the most part, any brand new deck should be pretty reliable for atleast a few years anyway. I have always had very good luck with reliability of products(eclipse or otherwise..knock on wood)
