Assistance in choosing components
I’m looking for some assistance in choosing components for stereo upgrade
I’m driving a 2006 Smart Car.
It’s a great commuter but the sound system could use a lot of work. Stock system sounds ok but the sound is all from the front with not enough bass.
Solution to this is door speakers and a subwoofer.
I have heard a car with these upgrades and it sounds great.
Door speakers can hold 1x 6.5” speaker and 1x 4” speaker for each door.
I have seen a 10” sub (with 140 watt amp) behind the driver’s seat and it sounds great.
I have access to a carpenter who can build the door speaker enclosures and possibly make a custom sub enclosure.
For the sub there is only 5” of space behind the driver seat with the seat all the way back.
(I think I can get 6” with the seat in my normal driving position)
The car currently has the stock head unit installed.
I’m not looking to spend much more than $1000 for system upgrades.
I think I need a better quality head unit.
It should be single DIN size and not too fancy.
I don’t want anything with a motorized face.
I do want something with a remote control.
I have all my music on a tablet PC which I take with me on the road, so the head unit should have an aux-in input.
Is there a head unit that puts out enough power to run all these speakers?
What amp/subwoofer do you recommend?
I have done some shopping online but I end up getting lost in too many choices and technical terms.
I really appreciate any help!
Cheers
Mike

Pioneer Premiere DEHP390MP is the cd player for this application. Simple and to the point with no fluff. Earthquake makes a incredible shallow mount 10" sub that takes a super small sealed or ported box, this would be a ideal match in your small car. Concentrate on one good set of component speakers for the front doors of the car, put some $ into good speakers here if the budget allows. Add a 4 channel amplifier to drive the works and you are good to go. Pioneer Premiere again for the 4 channel amp as it is a nice efficient class D full range amplifier. If I can track down another one of the last years models, it will no doubt save you some $ (like $200 at least) and it is a super small amplifier, important when space is at a premium. I would think that $1000 on a package like this is totally do-able.
