lemme try to explain differently...
its like the subs hits the 40-50hz range really well deep and loud
but the 50-80range it doesn't (not sure those numbers even make sense but just making a point.)
The "leaving tuning out of it' wasn't directed at you. Just thought I would mention that. It was directed at zinger002.

Believe me...I feel your pain when I read things like this. Turns out you have more patience than I do.

I wouldn't comment on midbass, since I've never heard that components set.

If you have time and if you want to, we can meet up for a listen, since we are both in Kitchener. Let me know. It's always fun to see someone else's install and hear it .

that would be awesome, "install'??...lol....all thrown in poorly except doors....but yeah if you're into I'd much appreciate your opinion....lemme know when and where....and thank you.

so i read a tutorial on setting gains with a DMM, i went through it, made a test tone cd at 65hz and went and adjusted my gains to the recommended settings, well that made a huge difference, problem is, to get the proper volt reading my gains are set to very nearly max (doesnt seem right to me) but now the subs actually pound! not thrilled with the overall sound as i feel im still missing midbass, when i turn the subs off and set up the front components to where i think they sound best then i turn on the sub, im still feeling im missing something, not sure if its tightness, midbass (although the 6's in the doors seem to be playing low enough).....oh crap i dunno...but the gain setting was a start at least i now know they will play at the volume i want...i will play with settings and EQ until i can get around to playing with box size/shape and style (ported/sealed)....

any other suggestions in the meantime would still be greatly appreciated (except the pm's that i need to get rid of my JL stuff (im not ready to do that quite yet))

...thanks in advance

If you need to run with the gains almost full out you might want to think about saving up for a larger amp. From what I've heard, its not a good thing to run with the gain jacked but

your JL's are ok subs for rap n crap..they like to play low because of their low FS but have a problem staying tight because their suspension is extremely weak( soft)... the true honest suggestion for rock is make that box smaller... you're at 1.1 cubes total? or left over after sub displacement?

if your amp has it...turn on the subsonic filter set it in the mid 30hz range and let the crossover run around 75-85hz( depending on the slope of it)...that should electronically help tighten the sound... atleast untill you get a chance to play with the box... depending how tight u want that w3 to play id say try 0.8 to as low as 0.6 cubes... but thats after sub displacement... and give a little bit of fibrefill to smothen the edge a little
