if your amp has it...turn on the subsonic filter set it in the mid 30hz range and let the crossover run around 75-85hz( depending on the slope of it)...that should electronically help tighten the sound... atleast untill you get a chance to play with the box... depending how tight u want that w3 to play id say try 0.8 to as low as 0.6 cubes... but thats after sub displacement... and give a little bit of fibrefill to smothen the edge a little

I am still into old school Death Metal, Metal ande just regular rock n roll yes Metallica..(but the good old stuff) Slayer, Kreator, Exodus, Method of Destrusction and Infernal Majesty... and the list goes on including the 80's hair bands like Def Leppard, Europe, Twisted Sister...
I actually really like the sound of RE's SX's and Audiobahn 06 series they are both alot stiffer than teh JL W3's there are also tons of other subs out there that are stiffer and will play the hard tight drum of Metal and rock

what i guess im asking is, will i be able to get these W3's to sound the way i want with tuning/box build/learning wtf im doing or will i be shopping for something that might suit my tastes a little better, noone knows what my ears like but hopefully you get the jist of the question.
I'd like to check out the RE's, if i can find a dealer i dont have to fly to, or someone in the area with some installed....

I had the same problem FOREVER (lack of midbass but lots of everything else). After a few years of buying new subs and front speakers with no real improvement I did two things that I highly recommend:
1) build a custom box (personally I prefer ported now); and,
2) get some midbass drivers.
Both of those can cost some money but you said money was not really an issue...
Good luck

Peerless 8" XLS if you can find them anymore. Or even the SLS series 8 (70 each).
Rainbow Profi 6.5 series, pretty pricey, but they are known for giving a good kick. But they need to get crossed at 80hz@18db i think. Not sure on how good the midrange is on them.
If you want both good midrange and good midbass I can also think of Seas W18 7" driver. Pricey too. About 190 a piece. Can be had for slightly less probably. But I don't think you need them since I just noticed your component set is 3way and has a midrange.
If you are going to go to a custom setup you will need a good xover to set it all up properly. I just checked your first post and you have a 880 prs deck, so that's really good and flexibly. You also need to figure out how the midbass will integrate with other speakers. Becoming complicated. Are you gona use your 3way component xovers? Deck? .. see. I don't think that dropping a driver to JLs xover is a good idea, especially if the driver's impendance is not 4ohm.
Decide if you want to go easy way and use JLs xover, or you want to go deeper.
Sorry, I don't have any other ideas for more mainstream brands. I'm more into raw drivers.
btw, if you want to meet I can do it anytime probably, just pm me when you want to. you can have a listen to my seas ca18 mids, they aren't as good as w18s, but you can get the idea.
