now from my understanding this is my out take.
I have thought about this myself. time and time again.
what do you wanna do with the pc? surf the net? or just a big jukebox.
Get a mini atom pc. reload it with a tablet pc, go online and find "all weather touch screens" that are able to respond in really cold weather. your touch screens with have usb interface.(this is how the touch system will work) as for internet... get a rogers stick. or if you have an iPhone tether off it.
Want more hd space... external HD,or ssd but its up to u.
I think a ball park range with install is around 1000 bucks. most expensive item are the touch screens. and ssd drives.

I had considered doing this as well, but figured it just wasn't worth the hassle....and an Apple iPad (for me) would be pointless. I am a Windows guy.
The only thing I would even consider putting in, is a Windows7 based iPad knock-off (some call them 'myPad' or winPad etc....) with a bunch of USB ports to connect a decent USB sound device to interface with my BitOne over fibre as well as GPS and other devices.

liliput is THE brand you want for the touch screen, you can also modify winxp to run off a usb stick plus the use of ASIO lets you control more of the audio tuning without the need of extra hardware, and if you have optical output capabilities on your sound card there are some amps that can support it as well
