Cabin Pressure
#1
In the dB Drag rules, it states crap about you can't have any devices to change cabin pressure or something. But people use their air con to increase the pressure by lowering the temp. What if someone were to take a couple boxes of dry ice and sit em in there before the show? Legal? would it work?

legal but probly wont work. cold air doesnt really work. it was said that in extreme hot air works but who knows. at euro finals those guys had big humidifiers in their cabins and apperantly it worked for them. i tried cold and heat and it did nothing. actually spl went down with the heat for me.

Something to remember is that a soundwave moves better thru cold air because its denser and not as heavy as hot air...
I think the cold air making a difference would only really come into play in the bigger classes where huge amounts of air are being moved and larger pressures are needed...
Just my thoughts..

hmmm interesting.. In our last vehical, we could loose up to 3 db's if the cabin temp wasn't where we wanted it. They didn't have humidifiers at euro finals either..they were A/C units btw. In a contained system (extreme) you can actually shift your freq by the temp! Doesn't work in all vehicals as stated above. Our A/c unit gained the SM 1-2 guy 0.3! Just testing in his pit Trial and error is the only way for this.

best score that we ever hit with the shadow was moist humid cold day. i think that it actualy rained that day(north shore audio video) but accross all our tests that we have done. we found that testing in dry hot will give us our lowest score and we can use that score to know if we've done good or bad. that way if we get in moist hot we can know for sure what is gonna happen. even though the meters are all calibrated and are not easily thrown out of whack, your system still adapts to the heat and cold , dry and hot. best thing to do is do as many tests across all these conditions and see what your car likes and then you accomodate to your surroundings. If you cooled your car at a show with dry ice, what do you think will happen while the mic is being inserted. the cold air will go with the wind. keep your equipment cool and your engine cool and youll have plenty of power, current available for your kaboom.
