ive always followed the policy of letting things warm up gently.
i usually turn on the stereo, low volume and let it work for a few minutes, maybe 5.
by then the heat is coming on pretty good, so i feel ok to turn it up.
and the amps...well, they heat up themselves, lol.
its just the sub i worry about, all alone in the trunk.

Red face

There has been mornings when I've seen ice crystals on the cone and surround of woofers. You would think that when those ice crystals melt while warming up they would get damaged. Diddnt seem to harm them whatsoever

sorry for the double post, but another thought...

how many of you have parents/friends/girlfriends who just hop in the car, start it and crank the stereo right after startup??
the way i see it, if low quality factory speakers can tolerate that kind of behavior, one would assume that slightly gentler treatment should be fine for a decent speaker.

I'm on my 6th system in my 4th car over 17 winters. (Yup, I'm old) I've never had a problem because of cold. My old Pioneer cassette used to go a bit slow till it warmed up, but i've never had a problem with CD's, amps, subs or speakers.

Ditto to most in here.. i've kept audio in car all year round.. ( feeling -42's n such) just create a warm up period and you should be fine. The main problem is hot metal ( amps) in a cold environment.. if for some reason the car starts to get cold quick enough ( when car is offf after driving round) it MAY create condensation within the unit.. water in amp=not good. With the new more pocket hurting stuff i have now it's all coming out for winter.. minus the head unit.. i'll see how it takes the cold..
