how do you choose impedance for your subs? to hook up your subs? i dont know anything about this topic, so whats important when your going to buy new equipment - sub / amp

 

this could go on for days..... basically you figure out the impedance you want the amp to see, then how many subs you plan to run, then you choose your voice coils based on that, if you buy subs first then you have to figure out what impedance they can make when wired together and buy an amp that will deliver the power you require at that impedance.

 

Well I have the amp first - Alpine MRD M1000, so i have to choose the subs off of that. I would prefer Sql over db, so what factors are there in choosing impedance for the amp? And then the voice coils?
Alpine MRD M1000 RMS Power (at 12V,20Hz-200Hz)
* Per channel into 2 ohms : 700W x 1
* Per channel into 4 ohms : 500W x 1

would 4 ohms mean less power, cleaner sound?
now i like deep bass, does any of this have a factor in that?

 

usually more power means cleaner sound at higher volumes, so the louder you want to go with out sounding like a garbage can being thrown down stairs the more power you need, but make sure your speakers can handle it... its always better to have a little extra power on tap just in case

the 'depth' of your bass will more be determined by the box the subs are in... im not an expert on that end of things, but there are several around here..

as for the impedance... if you want to get the most from the amp then set up for a 2ohm load. Decide if you want one or two subs then you can decide on the voice coil arrangement.

I personally have one 12 that is rated for 600RMS and it has dual 2ohm vc. my amp makes around 700RMS at 1ohm so i have the vc's wired in parallel so that the amp sees a 1ohm load, this way i have more then enough power for the sub... as for the sound, well i dont know yet... i just wired the car today and i have the MDF chopped up and sitting in the hatch waiting to be assembled...
