cock a dutie due....
I'm sure lots of you guys have ordered on line from the U.S.Anyone familar with shipping rate and dutie fees due.The amp Im looking at is a two channel 75x2 .its around 150$ ...Im assuming tax is 15% and then a border fee as well as a hidden fee for usps to cover charge...how much is this charge? .There is one website i can try..that pops up under canadian car audio, but i think they still charge funny...Some deals are too good to pass up.(sorry MR2NR lol),but i dont want to end up paying another 50% after the fact ..and thats what I'm thinkin...............(Spkrs and HU from MR2NR.of course. cause I do think we should support local)
Talk to MR2NR about an amp too. If you are already getting Speakers and HU from him, he might work a deal . . . you'll likely be better off in the long run.
Your fear of another 50% brokerage fees is not unreasonable. I believe that UPS has crazy rates for brokering.
I personally don't think it's worth it. Buy Canadian.

I've ordered tons of stuff from USA although no audio products. If sent by USPS there is no "hidden" charges. You will pay duty, sales tax, gst and a $5 customs processing fee. FWIW, I recently bought a golf club for about $100 and the total extra charges were $11.
So if I Have a price of 200 cdn on top of that would only be another 20 bucks...what about border fees? I've gone thru posts and seen tons of horror stories on bills that come later or a bill that needs to be paid before final delivery.I mean jesus you can get the same spkrs on line i want for 209...I know theres no after service ...but there should be a factory warrenty no? so what your saying is they will cost me about 250...thats is way lower than any quote yet ...There's gotta be a catch eh?
There is no factory warranty as they are not authorized dealers. In some cases you are given a 90 day warranty from the seller and that is it. If you do have a claim, it on your $ to send them back and then have them sent back. That makes 3 times you have now paid for shipping. It also means that lets say in the case of speakers, you cannot just warranty the mid like you could from a CDN authorized dealer. You would have to send the whole works back (throw out the box and you are SOL). Then what if they cannot get them again, they give you the next best? What if it takes 2 months for warranty? Yes there are bills that come afterwards, my step son jsut found that one out the hard way after I told him not to do it, lesson learned. (he bought clear tail lights that ended up not fitting his Crapalier). Lesson learned again. So you ask them to ship USPS as a gift.... what if that seller is identified as such and your parcel gets marked for inspection? What if it gets lost? Do you think that you are going to have that much success tracking a parcel from USPS through to Canada Post vs. UPS or FEDEX? Why do you think the sellers use UPS and FEDEX, way easier to track, they come to the seller and UPS and FEDEX give the seller a deal. At the end of the day though, you are the one who assumes the risk.

I just had a pair of 8" subs shipped up from the US by a friend of mine. Total charges "after that fact" through USPS/Canada Post? $0.00!
Basically... Rob, you know I like you and I appreciate that you're a paying vendor here trying to make a living.. I DO NOT like the fear mongering you spew around here.
Either you're misinformed or you're just talking out your *** in order to skew the perception of our users. Either way it's BS.
Back when I was looking for a set of components, I decided I wanted the Morel ovation series. After spending weeks looking around online for them, MR2NR said he could get them in. He had the same price as the other online retailers, and he didn't charge shipping/brokerage/ect..
Don't write off all the local stores, check them out, haggle, then buy from online.
The warranty horror stories are true. If the product isn't DOA; You'll be sending off a million emails without a response. I can't say they ALL do it, but out of the 2 things that died (that were bought from ebay) and a million emails later; They're still broken and I had to pay shipping on it just to never see it again.
Get it shipped by USPS or UPS's higher end shipping (this shipping option covers the brokerage) and you'll be fine.
