Ive decided to go to a single 12" so now wondering what the best pair is for a sub and amp? I found an Alpine deck for $150 so i have $650 to spend on a sub&box, amp, and wiring. Any suggestions?

Can you make the box yourself? If so that is going to free up more $ for better equipment. I have a package deal left on the DD2512 and a Eclipse XA1000 that I can throw in a wiring kit and have it to your door for $675.00 inc. tax and shipping.

For the box, I can design it for you and give you a cut sheet. Take it into Home Depot or any other store and have them cut it out for you, or have a friend with a tablesaw do it. If you really must, I can ship the raw wood precut to you for you to assemble on that end. Add $25.00 for this option.

Will that amp give me the right amount of power for the sub? Not sure how the amp watt to sub watt works? Should there be equal watts for the sub and amp???

Lets unlose you. Is it a 100% perfect match of power output from amp to maximum rated power of the sub, no. Are you going to drive around all day with it at maximum output, if you value your hearing and do not want a ticket (which I also get to help hand out....muwahaha) then the answer is no.

Bass response is all about the box. Build the box right and the thing is going to wail. Screw up on it and it is not going to perform near as well as it should. The difference in 150w rms of output on the amp is going to be seen by a meter, would you hear it, chances are probably not. That said we have two options here.

(1) find another amp to give you what you think you need and more than likely kill the budget.
(2) find another amp and sub to match the budget.

A Eclipse XA2000 and the DD512 subwoofer for example would fit this bill and budget. 300w rms amp to 300w rms sub. This is a more expensive amp than the XA1000, even though the XA1000 has 150w rms more power. The better deal is the first package by far.

Don't get hung up on watts, it will sound just fine. If your budget has a chance for growth, then sure we can look at a bigger amplifier. If not, this package will definitely perform.
