Copying panel... have some questions
so i am making a copy of a interior panel so i can put a sub in it instead of cutting the factory panel and my questions is: after i completely tape the panel off with green performance masking tape should i cover it with plastic garbage bags or should just the masking tape be good enough to keep out the resin and what not?
i would have gone to the junkers and picked up a 2nd one
but i would not use tape for what you are doing .i would coat it with mold Release alot of it it is like wax (go over 110% of it ) ALOT OF IT then fg it

Second the auto wreckers (don't mind Kev's spelling). If you don't want to go to the wreckers, use duct tape as the resin really does not like sticking to duct tape as compared to green painters tape.
i have already tryed finding a panel at a wrecker and none of them within driving distance have any...
so your sayin ducktape would be better than masking tape... or i could just vac the air outta a garbage bag and tryin that to get a perfect mold or just cover it

Nothing wrong with a plastic bag save for if the resin is too hot, it will melt the plastic....... you can always spray glue over the masking tape to attach the plastic to as well. I would still layer duct tape over the masking tape. The duct tape is nice and thick, lays on smoothly and the resin has a hard time sticking to it. The painters tape underneath leaves little residue to clean off of the stock panel unlike just attaching the duct tape to it. Duct tape and easy removal just do not go together, so use both.

No it will not fall off, there is a small bond between the resin and the tape as the tape has ridges in it. This makes it easy for the glass and resin to help hold it shape. I would forget about the plastic altogether and use the tape and duct tape. It is what works for me and is what I prefer to use. Other people may choose to do it different and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Duct tape peels off of the glass nice and easy thanks to it being so strong. Green tape does not. Mold release works great as well. Try it both ways if you like.
