Are Dead Preout's fixable at all?.

I smoked them a while back another deck I have in another car whne hooking up the Cap and would like to know if it's repairable? How much does it usually costs?

Is It possible to resaulder something urself?

Thanks

I just got my alpine deck repaired. It had the same problem. The output circuite were fried. It cost me $102 to get it repaired. Can it be fixed by an everyday person? I am not sure. I know I'd rather have some fix it and have it come back with a warranty from the repair centre.

usually if you take out the rca's
its usually just the ground you fry
i've never seen the signal fried
and also most of the times you fry the output chip the rca's usually still work
i know some pioneers have the remote on comming out of the output chip (brilliant idea by some dumb ***)
usually if the ground is fried i charge an hour $50

But is it fixable, (Like can I just open it up, resaulder something (to reconnect the ground), or maybe the output chip has to be replaced.

The Deck is an Alpine CDE 7830 (so as you can see it's not worth paying anything to fix...lol) I just use it for the radio and a CD player in my winter beater.

I know it's probably really easy to fix, but I just need some direction. I've sauldered things before on circuit boards to fix them. Is it just as simple as taking something out and resauldering in a new one? (probbaly not going to tell me because it's a business for you

usually if its the rca ground you will get a signal to your apm from your rca's
its just that you will get turn on and off pop engine noise as well as switching noise to

So I open it up and then look for melted saulder (where the ground connection would be from the RCA wires coming into the unit) and re-saulder that area to connect the ground again?

One time the center pin of my rca touched 12v and it burnt out a via on the board. A via is a little hole that connects a trace from one side of the board to the other. I just flowed some solder through the hole and she was fixed. Often you can't see that from a visual inspection so whip out your multimeter and start at the connector and start working your way back until you find it or go into a chip or transistor. If you have continuity from the chip or transistor all the way to the connector the chip is probably cooked. This is most likely a very cheap part. If your lucky there will be a part number on the chip. Unless you know what your looking for, part numbers can be difficult to identify. If you have a digi cam take a picture of the chip you think is cooked and post it on here. If I can make out the part number I can tell you where to get it and how much it will cost. Most likely the part will be around $1, shipping will probably be $5 from www.digikey.ca. IMO this is your problem, as long as you can solder good you can fix this your self. That's the great part about audio circuits, they are usually pretty simple and inexpensive to repair.

Thanks JayDawg, I'll open it up and see if anything looks amiss. for checking continuity (I guess I use ohms?).

thanks for the info. as for Audio circuits, I know it's really easy and I have basic knowledge and have hooekd up 3 whole systems in my cars over the years without a single problem. but something simple like what circuit to test with what may be easy knowledge to somebody else but not, me.

I can figure out practically anything within and engine bay...but circuits boards...I need to know what the piece does and what the normal measurement figure should be...V's ohm's, etc.

thanks again as it's a 6 year old deck and I'm not spending any money on it except for the $1 dollar chip I know it only costs...lol.
