Deck Problem
#1
I have a Alpine 7892, having a problem the, it keeps turning on and off. I was driving on this road that was under construction and the Jeep (YJ) was shaking like crazy then it started flaking out. I checked it out, no go. But I bought the extended 5 year warrenty from Audio Video 2001, yay! ...no!.. took the deck out and there must have been too much moisture or something back there cause theres some rust spots on the outside. I figure theyre gonna bust me down with improper use or something, do I have a prayer?

is that deck a face off? most of the time i find that problem with the face off decks is that the contacts on face plate come undone where they are attached/plugged in to the actual head unit. and when u shake the deck or the car and the deck turns on and off that is usually the problem. i dont believe moisture had anyting to do with it. u should have no problem returning your deck.

Hey, thanks for the response.
Tinted, I know the problem wasnt the moisture but im worried that theyre going to look at the rust on the back and say that I voided my warrenty somehow. You could be right about the faceplate though, it is a faceoff and everytime I take it out to check it, it works normally for a bit and then flakes out some more.
Jeepbeats, its wired into the factory harness.
Havent had a chance to take it in yet but i'll keep ya posted, thanks again.

yes if theres rust there that means theres been water in contact with the radio
and i would bet that it being a jeep thats your problem
i ususally warn customers of jeeps of the potential problem
and im sorry to tell you this but water damage is usually not covered under warranty
if you disassemble the radio before its to late
and spray the board with a petrolium oil i use fluid film and scrub it down with a tooth brush
you will probably find that once you pull the main board out its probably all corroded
you may save it before its to late
p.s. don't spray the cd mechanism
and also its usually the window to body seal that leaks

I have a 92 Yj with a 7894, I have been lucky so far, no leaks onto the radio. Pinhead is right, you can get that seal redone. You should wire that deck directly to the battery also, they draw a fair bit of current.
