so you mean the center woofer, it has gone through many adaptations to get it where we wanted it, not as many as the mids and tweeters but almost. this car has turned into a much larger project than initially thought, the build team, of james tully, donnie mitchel, kevin robinson and myself, have put alot of time into this car and i thank them for all their efforts and personal time spent to get it to where it is now, good job guys, i appreciate it

WD21 05-13-2005 09:50 PM

amazing!

SUX 2BU 05-14-2005 09:37 AM

Looks good. At the batteries, will the fusing be within the required 18" of wire length? I can't tell from the pic where the fuse is. And for the single do-all gauge, does Dakota Digital give all the necessary adapters and stuff to intergrate with your factory wiring?

defro13 05-14-2005 10:20 AM

sux, the fuses are on the battery terminals, just not in yet and as for the guage they kind of give you what you need, you have to source the rest, in the neon half of the factory circuit board is still in the car, there was no way aroung it

mike bisson 05-14-2005 11:03 AM

WOW and WOW

King Dynasty 05-15-2005 12:27 AM

nice work !!! all ya need is some paint and its ready for some tunes

defro13 05-15-2005 07:56 AM

the dash isnt getting painted, its getting covered in a suede type material

JohnVroom 05-15-2005 10:10 AM

I think everyone wants the opportunity to hear this one day assuming you are going to show/ compete it (and with all that heat shrink/ conduit etc I know you plan on competing).

defro13 05-15-2005 11:01 AM

the plan is to compete with this car for this year and maybe next. the car will be available for listening for anyone who ever wants to listen. this car was built to sell gear at the store and for anyone to listen to. a new car is being built for the basic pro(street x)class. one seat judging and not all the crazy install requirements that advanced has. i am really looking forward to this next car. the problem with cars like the neon is the amount of time it takes to build it to be competitive in advanced. 3 of us spent 5 days last week 9 hours a day on it and it still needs all of us for another week. the good thing is that everyhting is built and upholstered now its just wiring up the amps, reinstalling the interior, 15 lbs of modeling clay in the dash pods(mid and woofer). its alot more work than it sounds like

Brandon 05-16-2005 05:41 PM

Those battery terminals are SICK.....who makes them?

defro13 05-16-2005 06:40 PM

phoenix gold make the battery terminals, and i agree they are sick, cant get a fuse much closer to the battery

the reupholstered ceiling went in today, all the doors were reinstalled, the carpet went back in, this thing is starting to look like a car again. after a legnthy wait for some rca cables the amp rack is totally wired, the cold air induction system for the amps and warm air exhuast is completed(cool use of 10 fans to do it) the seatbel;ts were reinstalled and the reuphoilstered b pillars werre put back in. still waiting for some uphoslstery, the trim around to processor is very tricky(the guy is on his 4th attempt), and the final version of the dash pods, after a minor modification are set to come back tomorrow, only 1 more obstacle exists, and after a good nights sleep i will conquer tomorrow

MR2NR 05-16-2005 06:57 PM

At least you are getting sleep.... Good job to all involved in the project.

Paul Niwranski 05-16-2005 08:53 PM

Those terminals are indeed nice. Streetwires offers a terminal with built in fuse too:

goalie 35 05-16-2005 09:05 PM

that my good man is one horny looking battery post/fuse holder!!

Merlin 05-16-2005 09:33 PM

the phoenix one is still sexier. its not bad tho.

defro13 05-16-2005 09:59 PM

the strretwires is very good(we are streetwires dealers)but it kinda reeks when it comes to the amoun t of outputs you get and the phoenix allows you to get twice as much fusing

Paul Niwranski 05-17-2005 01:02 PM

For sure, the PG one is hot. I was only showing an alternate

Rockford has them too:

Shaughn Murley 05-17-2005 04:57 PM

MAN, suede don't photgraph worth crap.

coulter 05-17-2005 05:09 PM

That looks awsome.

This has probably been answered somewhere in this thread, but I'm too lazy look through it all, are the subs running free air?

defro13 05-17-2005 05:18 PM

yes the woofer in the rear are free-air, the one in the dash is sealed

furley, i just didnt get a chance to pet it in the right direction

WD21 05-17-2005 05:57 PM

type x's?

defro13 05-17-2005 06:22 PM

yes

MR2NR 05-17-2005 06:32 PM

Done anything to keep that trunk sealed?

Shaughn Murley 05-17-2005 06:37 PM

It doesn't matter, every picture I've seen of suede, ultrasuede or alcantara looks funny, just the way the flash hits it I guess, yet it looks awesome in person.

MR2NR 05-17-2005 06:54 PM

Just don't get caught petting it. Why can't the manufacturers of those battery clamps give us more outputs....

Lethal 05-17-2005 11:32 PM

Dave have you thought of any ideas to protect the subwoofers to maximize points for "Speakers properly protected"? An easily removeable fine mesh basket that covered all three subwoofer baskets should suffice without hampering sound.

I think I remember James commenting about his own install. Something about still being able to touch the rear surface of the cone from underneath.

"Speakers Properly Protected (0 - 5)- All speakers in passenger areas of the vehicle must be properly protected from damage during the normal use of the vehicle. If a judge can touch the cone or surround of a speaker with his the blunt end of a ball point pen then that speaker it may considered only partially protected. No grill will be considered zero points. Such protection may include, but is not limited to, an expanded mesh grill, waffle grills and so on.

However.....
Speakers located in a trunk or hatch area (in vehicles with no rear seat, the area behind the “B” pillar will be considered hatch area) must be protected from damage. All speakers in theses areas should have grills with no more than 2 inched gap at any one point. Inverted dub woofers will be considered properly protected. "

Kind of something I was wondering for myself but after looking at your install it may affect you as well.

Just an idea to take into consideration if you haven't already. I expect to see you top 3 at Worlds but won't be surprised at all if you make top dog . The install is looking awesome and I can't wait to take a peek and more importantly have a listen when I'm down your way in August or perhaps sooner.

defro13 05-18-2005 08:02 AM

like mickey brones' eclpise, the woofers are considered protected, this same theory covers infinite baffle woofers applications as well, i asked myself the same qusestion before doing it and got confirmation just to be sure

i make no predictions on this car, i built as good and as thought out as i could, with help obviously, and if it good enough for 3rd, 3rd in the world in a really tough class is alright with me

defro13 05-18-2005 12:48 PM

we have done alot to keep the trunk sealed, a 10'x12' piece of black foam in the channels on either side of the trunk that go up into the back window area, lots of mdf peices glued in and sealed with pl400, body seam sealer in all of the cracks and about 50 sqare feet of scosche hylerflex to cover eveything else

the suede does look funny in the pics but look good in person

They do:

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/ezcom...PPBCEMF1_F.jpg
CPPBCEMF1
Expansion module for all Fused battery clamps - (2) 4 AWG or (2) 8 AWG connections.
Used when more than one wire is required to integrate fused battery clamps into factory applications, typically when (1) 4 AWG and (1) 8 AWG input wires are present.

defro13 05-19-2005 06:14 AM

dukk, have you ever used one of those? if so how long are they?

MR2NR 05-19-2005 07:07 AM

I need to know the same.

Paul Niwranski 05-19-2005 12:33 PM

Nope. Never used any of the items I have shown in this thread. I'm currently trying to wedge two 0ga ANL holders under my hood in a nice tidy spot that does not exist :freak.

I'd say that if those are 4ga holes that the thing is probably an inch long plus the post that goes into the terminal.

ChizzerZ24 05-19-2005 12:45 PM

Looking pretty damn sharp! Nice part you still get a trunk out of it in the end....Well some trunk!

Paul Niwranski 05-19-2005 01:05 PM

Dave - you doing anything for the underside of the trunk lid?

Paul Niwranski 05-19-2005 01:15 PM

lol, so is that a no :D

Man, two amps - they fit so well. Why did I have to get greedy?

defro13 05-19-2005 01:30 PM

the trunk lid has a piece partially built right now(not a huge prority as of y right now), it will be covered in the same material as the trunk, with some embroidering on it, alpien f#1 status or something cheesy like that, still undecided

Yeah im going to try and stuff six Zapcos in the back of my sprint.I wish only two amps. But not at the price tag on those puppies!

Starterwiz 05-19-2005 11:03 PM

So have you tried out the subs yet Dave, and is the back glass gonna hold together?
Oh yeah....it's Alpine...never mind. :D
Just kidding bud...Bet it sounds as nice as it looks.

Can't see from the pics, but do you have anything covering the slots fot the trunk arms?
I use a couple of snow brushes for the nylon bristles glued in behind the slots. Oh yeah...snow brushes are a rarity out there.

Get yourself a suede brush from a shoe store, and the pics will show a bit nicer if the grain is even.
