Make me want to put my 900 in the amp rack.....so lazy.

JohnVroom 02-11-2009 08:00 PM

puting the speakers wide tends to make a wide soundstage and it is easier to put tweets in the sail than mids...
placement looks good, no holds barred

defro13 02-11-2009 08:01 PM

thats where they sounded best...that was the 6th location that they were tested in and that where they sounded best and it gets the tweeters 4.5" further out than the pillars and the gallant tweeters arent on the sailpanel.....btw the gasllant is a very very good sounding car

defro13 02-12-2009 10:42 AM

keep in mind as well that when i competed the seats were 8" further back than stock and 2" in towards the console.....i made steel brackets that bolted into the factory 4 seat bolt locations and relocated the seats back and in.

What tweets are in the Galant?

Sesh Shaker 02-12-2009 11:27 AM

i love it, every bit of it. i love how you can the see massive drivers of the subs in the trunk, while still having room for more! :O
i like the two tones you went with on the dash material and relocation of the tweeter. thats car must sound amazing...

defro13 02-12-2009 11:46 AM

the gallant uses a alpine w505, apline pxah900 f#1 processor, a mrvf900 f#1 amplifier, 2 pdx1.1000 amplifiers and 2 pdx4.150 amplifiers...2 type x 12" woofers, alpine type x rear speakers, alpine f#1 3 way front left and right speakers and an alpine f#1 4" and tweeter center channel.......its a great car to listen too....very dynamic and very alive....i love listening to this car.....

That's true about the Gallant; it has rather large looking pods on the corner of the dash right? I guess I was thinking about the Passat.

I get the thing about the width for the tweeter location. But would that be at the expense of soundstage depth? Perhaps not though if you found it sounded best like that. When I had my Daytona, I thought about putting the tweets inside the side mirrors since they mated right up to the sail panels.

Are the woofers in the trunk acting as free-air? Or did you build the trunk in such a way that it is a box? If the trunk is acting as a box, how did you seal the contact points between the trunk lid and body?

I have a Toyota Tercel, and I would love to turn the entire trunk into a ported enclosure for 4 10's or something like that, yet still have the functionality necessary to put stuff back there when I need to.

maltesechicken 02-12-2009 01:32 PM

^^^ Nevermind, I found the answer a few pages back - free air.

theboy 02-12-2009 01:49 PM

I cant believe that build was 4 years ago....man im getting old.

defro13 02-12-2009 04:38 PM

me too....and sux...... moving the tweeter benefitted depth once the seats are in the listening position....the neon is one of the few car around that sounds better in the passenger seat than it does in the drivers

Thrill_House 02-12-2009 04:58 PM

Absolutley amazing install Defro, I especially like that dash once you redid it with the black and grey theme!

Interesting for sure. You going to change anything in it?

defro13 02-16-2009 08:23 PM

no plans to change it anytime soon......i would like to change the front woofer but i have yet to find one that fits....and couple companies have approached us about changing to their gear but it just hasnt made sense....my new vehicle will sound better i think

Weman 02-17-2009 01:41 AM

Wanna do that to my car?

Simply amazing!
