GOOD SPOT FOR THE SPEAKERS !!

Keep up the good work man..

Kris Dancey 02-12-2005 05:34 PM

Is that sub getting mounted in the dash???

KillerGrand 02-12-2005 05:38 PM

I want to install some 5 1/4" speakers in my dash near the A pillars exacly like this.
Any pointers? How do you manage airspace for the driver?
Any tutorials available on the web for this?

defro13 02-12-2005 05:45 PM

still debating on the woofer and box type, i have 10" in diameter but the box space is quite small. to get the airspace in my car, dodge was kind enough to leave a huge empty space at the top of the dash that was just waiting for a couple holes to be cut in it. each midrange/bass will be in 10trs vented and tuned to 60-65 hz. i will post many more pics of the install as it moves along, we just rhinolined(spray in bedliner) the entire floor and trunk area for sound deadening, there will be scosche hyperflex added to the floor with 3 layers of the cae noise block(2mls rubber 4mls foam underlay) towards the end of the project

defro13 02-12-2005 06:38 PM

i guess so, whatever a 2002 rt is

Haunz 02-12-2005 07:42 PM

Sounds like a whole lot of deadening...

Paul Niwranski 02-12-2005 09:52 PM

^ A few of us have them Mine's a 2004 but not as fancy as Dave's.

Dereck Waller 02-12-2005 11:41 PM

Yup, I have one as well, as well as Westec. I picked it because it seemed way better built than the compact cars from GM, I don't mind the Focus, but don't care for the styling. They make not bad SQ cars.

More pics man! I can't wait to see the finished product! :D

Lethal 02-13-2005 12:42 AM

forget the neon I want to see the pics of the quad Solo18"X chevy.

No more working on the Neon spend all your extra time for the 2nd annual Andre's soundoff.

That way I can try and be competitve in USACi this year or you be sure and be Pro 0-600 and I'll go Pro 601+.

And go to SBN. The first few Mountain Crests are on me if they have em in Florida.

Kris Dancey 02-13-2005 02:22 AM

We also have a 2002 RT as well, wife is driving it, but she may buy something else, so I may turn it into a dedicated stereo vehicle...I need to do something with this pile of gear...

PEI330Ci 02-13-2005 06:10 AM

Dave, if you can fit it under the carpet, CAE VB4 is the best I can recomend.

But then...you know how many problems I had with fitting my carpet back in...

Nice start!

Just wondering... how are those RTs performance wise ?

Sleepers or what .. ??

SUX 2BU 02-13-2005 09:56 AM

I had a 2002 Neon R/T as well. What's interesting about that is at one time there were 3 02 R/Ts on this board and it's a fairly rare car. Anyway, performance wise they are relatively decent. You can beat up on stock and lightly modded Civics all day long. The SiR's are quicker though. Number wise they are a 7.9 0-60 and 16.0 1/4 mile car. When we were shopping for one, we also looked at the Protege5. It handled a little better but you definitely felt the missing 20 HP advantage the R/T had over the P5. What annoyed me in my R/T was how poorly the knock sensor worked. On premium gas I would get clearly audible detonation at WOT in 2nd gear and could back off with my foot before the sensor caught it  Other than that it performed decently. Running the a/c though caused a very noticeable decrease in power. But dropping the clutch at 3k rpm could leave 20 ft. dual strips of rubber :D

Paul Niwranski 02-13-2005 09:58 AM

^ 18hp more than my standard motor. SUX2BU used to have an R/T and it didn't really 'feel' any faster than mine but I am sure it's rated a couple of 10ths faster With the advent of the SRT4 the R/T disappeared from the lineup.

R/Ts had all the high level trim options where I picked and chose what I got for options.

Paul Niwranski 02-13-2005 10:00 AM

DOH! He Posted as I was posting...

defro13 02-13-2005 11:08 AM

lethal, you can compete in basic pro 0-600, i will be in advanced pro 601-1200.

pei, the cae vb 4 is what im using, the total deadening with be 2-3 mils of rhinolioner, 1 layer of hyperflex and at least 2 layers of vb4 on the floor, the firewall will have 2 layers of hyperflex and 1 layer vb4 and the trunk will have 2-3 mils of rhinoliner and a layer of hyperflex. the doors have 3-4 layers of accumat on the already. the ceiling has 2 layers of hyperflex and every nook and cranny was stuffed with foam.

the seats are being moved 1.5" closer to the center with the help of some cool cnc'ed aluminum brackets, anymore than that and the difference gets noticeable.

the tweeters will be in the a pillar just above the midrange. all the speakers will be on top of the dash with the exception of the 2 type x 12" subwoofer that will be ib in the trunk. 1 alpine f#1 amp will power the midrange and tweeters and 1 will power the 2 12" woofers in the back and the yet to be determined but it looks like a scanspeak 8" but that may still change, woofer in the dash, the dash woofer box will be built as big as possible and measured and then the woofer will be chosen

the whole job should be done in 3 weeks, there are 3 of us building it, me , james tully and ken tory. assistance from a host of others will no doubt be needed, will keep pics coming

Number 2 02-13-2005 10:28 PM

Nice to see the work coming along. Can't wait to see it when its done. I wish I was that far into a rebuild.

Prolifik 02-14-2005 05:37 AM

horrible

PEI330Ci 02-14-2005 09:15 AM

Wow!!

That's a ton of deadening. I don't think the vacuum formed factory carpet liner will fit back in....doing a custom higher quality carpet floor?

Are you upgrading your suspension to handle this extra weight. I've done mine.

Adam

Haunz 02-14-2005 09:34 AM

^ cool heads up... nice to see you being nice sux.. :D

I know a couple people who own an R/T and Ive been a little affraid to race cause I didnt want to get my butt handed to me..

Iam assuming they are 5 speeds.. ?

defro13 02-14-2005 10:08 AM

the carpet fits back in fine and i have already upgraded the suspension, i jst want to listen to it, im getting pretty excited

TomK 02-14-2005 10:08 AM

Defro, I understand you didn't get a chance (or did you ???) to listen to the Audi A4 from DLS at CES. Similar to what you're doing, and yet a bit different. Getting 5.25" up in the dash area is very very nice. The owner was there and I got a chance to look through his installation book (before aomeone ripped it off!!). The pictures told an unbelievable story of the preparation that went into his Audi A4 even before the audio equipment was even unpackaged. There was so much aluminum it wasn't funny. Truly an impressive bit of work. Only thing I didn't like about the car was the way the front stage drivers were so much "in your face" cosmetically. Very distracting. But when you closed your eyes, WOW !!

Good luck with the project.

defro13 02-14-2005 02:56 PM

i saw the car but wanted to listen but was a being listened to at the time. mine wont be quite as in your face as that one cosmetically, do you by chance have any pics to post or email me of that one, i was sure that i took pics of it but cant seems to find them. i did some prelim testing with a pair of 5.25" coxials(avi cms 130, not a slouch of a coax) and if the initail listening test are any indication, the results should be quite good, time will tell, just trying to get all the sound deadening done and get the dash boxes built so i can get some true testing done to see if the angles that we have decided upon are going to be good, the crappy thaing is that for every test i have to somewhat reinstall the interior which is time consuming but worth i think

theboy 02-14-2005 03:36 PM

SO WITH THE NEW\OLD INSTALLER....IS THE BEER MACHINE FULL OF BUD AGAIN?????

defro13 02-14-2005 04:07 PM

beer machine is go, bastrd broke and the guy didnt want to fix it, its a good thing that there si a beer store going in the plaza were located in

ChizzerZ24 02-15-2005 04:50 AM

Some pretty nice work work your doing there!, I thought of the speakers in the same positions on the dash my crafting ability not so good! lol.. In my head they are installed perfect lol.. Once it's done is another story...

Beater Truck 02-15-2005 07:01 PM

Did you take the windshield out yourself, or get someone to do it for you? And nice work so far too, keep up with the pictures...

defro13 02-15-2005 08:44 PM

we took the windshield out ourselves and there will be more pics to come. i will be posting pics on a couple of day basis so people can see how a project like this comes together

PEI330Ci 02-16-2005 11:12 AM

Defro, that's one heck of a lot of tape work on the dash. I bet you had fun doing that. I've done something simalar....don't ask...

How did the sound damping adhesive take to the bedliner? (as the bedliner looked to have a rough surface to it) Once again, a ton of work. Sore hands yet?

I really enjoy the daily posting of pictures on your car, gives me something to look forward to. CCA has been kind of dead lately, so your adventures have certainly made things more exciting around here.

Are you building boxes outside of the car to experiment with midrange enclosure volume?

Looks great,

Adam

SUX 2BU 02-16-2005 11:34 AM

With the a-pillars, aren't you going to make pods to attach to the stock plastic ones? It looks like you have taped direct to the metal or is that just to prevent the 'glass from sticking to it and you will 'glass direct to the plastic a-pillar?

defro13 02-16-2005 11:51 AM

the a pillar will be totally new and will be 1 piece with the midrange box on the dash all the way to the ceiling, should look very cool as 1 piece

adam, i experimented plenty before the build but untill the dash is completely in there with the new top its hard to get a real good idea, but if the prelim testing is any indication, this car should be fun to listen to, all the way to kansas city in november

for the record mrvf900's give me a stiffy

Peter Barry 02-16-2005 12:39 PM

So Dave, no more AVI power?

theboy 02-16-2005 12:49 PM

Ouch!!!!

defro13 02-16-2005 01:03 PM

not in this system, but dont fret all the amps and speakers will be going in a car that will be on the circuit this year

we dicided to do a full f#1 system(except for dash woofer. it will be an avi sl500 10" woofer)

we really wanted to display the finest car audio procucts(imo and that all that matters :D ) in the world in a system that was complete f#1. this car is for demo and competition purposes and we really wanted to do a complete f#1 system because there is so few that showcase all of the gear
