Do big box stores sell lesser quality items?

He probably meant that the Big Box employee (average) would be someone working for pocket money, as a 'job' only, while the independant dealer (generalization again) would tend to have some/more vested interest in his/her store (IE owner/operators, family biz, etc).

Career vs. job, perhaps.

Obviously there are always exceptions to every rule, but that does make sense on a basic level.

Premier decks have different (more) voltage on the preouts, and usually MORE (for example the Pioneer has 2 while the Premier has 3 or 4, hypothetically) preouts.

There's probably more to it but thats all I know.

It's not always the same upgrades from Pioneer to Premier models, it depends on the model.

In the case of the DEH-P760MP versus the DEH-P7600MP, the upgrades are the two year versus the one year warranty, three mode loudness versus one mode & steering wheel remote versus card remote.

If you can find a Premier model over a Pioneer model for a difference of $30 or less, go for it as the warranty alone is probably worth $40 by itself.
