Eclipse Head Units

I remember when Eclipse first came out, I though they were cheesy as all hell. They had the ultimate flashing lights processor back then. I think Nak is the only non sellout CD player left, and look at their sales compared to the others, which company would you rather own?

Eclipse is damned if they and damned if they don't. If they are readily available at plenty of retailers, Eclipse has "sold out." If they are sold only through small B&Ms, people complain that they can't find an eclipse dealer near them. They still are the best at controlling unauthorized sales of their head units so their stuff isn't nearly as wh0red out as all the other decks out there.
I would love to check out a Nak, but I don't think they even have a US distributor any more. For now, I am very happy with my RF 8250 though.
I wish Eclipse would not be so stubborn and make they're faceplates removeable. As if the "fine" people from whalley are going to know that the stereo they just stole is ESN protected and - bla bla bla. Has anyone tried to use they're theft protection insurance at all. Apparently, they feel so strongly about ESN that if your deck gets stolen, they'll replace it....

^^^ Actually, in 10 years of Eclipse sales, 5 of my customers have had their units replaced by Eclipse at no charge. This vs. 10 ICBC claims a month (none of which are Eclipse) for detach face units. Just to be fair, in 10 years of selling Eclipse I have also had 7 ICBC claims for decks stolen outside of the replacement theft guarantee period.

If non detach face decks indicate stubbornness on Eclipse's side, what does non detach face deck manufacturers refusal to give a theft warranty indicate?
^^ Well the average thief has no idea, so I would speculate that lack of claims is due to lack of awareness of the policy. IMO not having a detachable face is pretty dumb unless the deck actually has a stock look like the Naks.

It is advertised by Eclipse, and why wouldn't retailers use it as a selling point?
I think the more likely scenario is not many eclipses are actually stolen as compared to detach face decks.
Until the past couple of years, eclipses looked pretty bland as well(not as bland as Nak, ofcourse but still). I like the bland, bare bones look more.

I still don't get what the big deal is that FS got Eclipse? Yes I only install one day a week but I average 3-5 decks in that one day and I think I have put in a whopping one unit..

I think the previous pricepoint and market of Eclipse is the reason that there are fewer stolen than other brands. The "niche" market for Eclipse is either the "SQ competitor" crowd, the "old dude looking for high fidelity" crowd or the kid who has more money to spend on higher quality stuff. In pretty much all those cases the I will be willing to bet the vehicle is better protected (both with alarm and discretion of driver) than other brands.
If retailers are not selling on ESN technology then they shouldn't be selling Eclipse.
