It is advertised by Eclipse, and why wouldn't retailers use it as a selling point?
I think the more likely scenario is not many eclipses are actually stolen as compared to detach face decks.
Until the past couple of years, eclipses looked pretty bland as well(not as bland as Nak, ofcourse but still). I like the bland, bare bones look more. </font>[/QUOTE]It was just speculation, but regardless it makes no sense to me not to offer a detachable face. The average thief would likely have no idea about ESN. Maybe the lack of Eclipse sales vs bigger brands such as Pioneer, Alpine and Kenwood biases the #s somewhat.

The "niche" market for Eclipse is either the "SQ competitor" crowd, the "old dude looking for high fidelity" crowd or the kid who has more money to spend on higher quality stuff. In pretty much all those cases the I will be willing to bet the vehicle is better protected (both with alarm and discretion of driver) than other brands.
If retailers are not selling on ESN technology then they shouldn't be selling Eclipse.

dukk, f#1, nice and exclusive, hey....you asked. the shop selling eclipse isnt a bad thing at all for me, as a matter of fact, i quite like them selling it. like i said before in the viod, the advertising that they will do with eclipse will only help bring more exposure to what is thought to be higher end product, and that can only be good for the specialty retailer
Does detach work, for most people no as they do not use the security feature as it was intended to be used.....they don't take the face with them. It is hidden in the car for the enterprising thief to root around and find and guess what guys....it is proven fact that this is indeed what they do.
Does Eclipse need detach....nope, not at all. Should the other companies offer a replacement guarantee, maybe they should try but that most certainly would not last long as the sheer volume of theft claims in the industry for detach vs. ESN is enormous.
It is not long before the detach companies make the leap to some kind of security system that is not based around 1988 technology, maybe it will be a SD format, who knows but time will tell. Even Blaupunkt has had a, make that two, great security systems other than detach, this just shows that there are lots of alternatives to detach as well. If a manufacturer can get rid of a detach face, they are going to be able to lower price points on their cd players as well, this is a flip side to the detach face scenario to consider.

Perhaps Eclipse did a cost analysis and found the savings from manufacturing a deck without detachable face outweighed the costs of replacing a limited amount of stolen units at manufacturing cost. This is the only feasible reason I can think of for not offering the detach face feature.

its not if they take the face off, its that they could if they wanted to, something eclipse doesnt offer, and if the customer removed the face just that one time a thief was going to break in, the violated feeling that only a person that had their car broken into feels would be averted. i feel better already knowing all the good ive done helping people not to let themselves feel that way. with eclipse you have to do the negative sell, when it gets stolen they will give you a new one, theres a pretty picture to paint, i see broken glass, trips to the body shop, $$$$ and so on, if it gets stolen it just cost you at least 300$ deductable, and the feeling of being violated. if you remove the faceplate your car likly wouldnt have been targeted in the first place, out of site out of mind. i love this topic
Well with every Eclipse deck their comes a set of stickers as most alarms do to stick on your windows. Hence the stickers let the would be thieves know that the deck is worthless if stollen. Dave you almost took Eclipse , and the only reason you didnt was future shop was going to be selling it. I do not use the negative sell at all. Plain and simple Eclipse has a great line of headunits. They sell themselves. Put it this way other dealers are calling me for Eclipse headunits. Have you ever even sold one Dave? Isnt Alpine having trouble with their new line of decks? Hmmmm. Seems funny. I have no problems at all with any of the Eclipse line up. And I dont see refubed stuff being sold at A&B.

i wasnt advocating alpine at all and yes the cda9855 and cda9853 have been problemsatic, vault you dont wasnt this to turn into a reliability issue between eclipse and alpine do you. i sold eclipse for 8 years, so yes i have sold a few here and there and was there when eclipse was at its worst. i did look at getting back into eclipse and decided not to, not just because of the shop getting it, but that was a contributing factor. i also never said that the product wasnt good, just that its and easy head unit to pick on. im sure glad that those eclipse decks come with stickers, i'll bet thats a big relief to someone buying one, i bet they work as good as the ones that come with alarms, because those have benn proven to deter thieves
