This is my first time posting, so I apologize if this sounds too overwhelming for a post. I own a 94’ 3.6 L mustang, the kind with the trunk and not the hatchback. I’m completely redoing the audio system which will include a new deck, new subwoofers and box, 4 5x7 speakers and amps to power it all.

My goal is to have a stereo system that will be very loud and possibly annoy neighbors. I like rock, so I think the best combo is two 10” subs in the trunk. I picked up these 5x7 speakers at Bleeker Stereo because they were on clearance. I bought them for 100 a pair, which were reduced from 200 a pair. I heard from a couple retailers that these were good speakers at a great price, which is why I made it my first purchase.

Click here to see the 5x7 speakers I purchased

I’ve heard good things about the solo baric subwoofers, so I’m considering purchasing two 10” kickers. If I were to get two 10” kicker subs, what kind of box should I get for them so that it fits in my trunk (height of 14.5”). I’m also clueless as to whether to go with 2 ohms or 4 ohms. Guys you gotta help me out here, at least point me in the right direction because this is annoying as @#$% for me. I don’t even know if this is a wise choice because I heard that if you don’t have the right power going to the subs, they’ll go bad. Basically, I need to get some suggestions as to what to do.

These are the subs I'm considering getting

I’m also deciding on what kind of amp I will need to power my four speakers, and what kind of amp I’ll need to power my subwoofers. I was told this amplifier would work well for the speakers and a similar one to this but a 2 channel would work well for the subs. I don't know how compatible it would be with the deck, and if I’d need a different amp. If so, I don’t’ know what would be compatible with both the deck and the subs. Here’s the link for the amp I had in mind:

The amp that the store suggestion I purchase

Last but not least, I need to decide on the right deck. I’m looking to spend 150-250 on a deck, but want something that is really good. I don’t know if getting more than a 1 bit deck is necessary, or if I need a certain about of voltage for that deck. When the guy at the audio store was explaining the converting from the deck’s voltage to the amp’s voltage, I got pretty confused. Apparently, it’s important and so I want to make sure I make the right decision. This is the deck they recommended. I can get this in the retail store new for 300. I can’t seem to find any better prices anywhere else. If you guys know of any good sites for shopping for this stuff too I’d really like to know. Ebay seems to be the best so far.

The deck the guy suggestion I purchase

Again, I’d really appreciate people’s suggestions since I’m new to the scene and know very little. I want something kickass, ebay links to products would be nice because that’s where I plan to do most of my shopping. Thanks to everybody!

equipment choices are fine(some may disagree), only problem is with the front 5x7 plates, the tweeters are going to be too low in the doors to give you decent highs. You should have purchased a set of 5x7 components(if you want direct replacement) for the front such as the Infinity ref 6810cs, see link;

http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='REF6810CS'&Ser=REF&Cat=COS

The most important factor in car audio is the installation, if it's poor the best equipment sounds like crap. Even lower end equipment can sound great if properly set up. Anyway, good luck, have fun, and welcome to the board.

Did you listen to the speakers? Buy speakers based on how they sound, not because of the deal you get.

The Kicker subs need a monster slot port enclosure in order to get stinking loud. As your trunk has a limited amount of space to work with and install a box into, I would be looking at subs that are far more suited to the application.

If the amp shown has a 40 amp fuse in it, the only way it is going to make the kind of power it is suggesting is to get hit by lightning. You are getting the runaround on the amp and it's real abilities.

A Eclipse cd player will school that Clarion and it is in a close price range as well.

Consider this as well. E-Bay shopping primarily comes out of the US. Meaning no warranty for the products in Canada, you get a$$ raped at the border for GST, customs and brokerage, you pay shipping, you pay for more shipping if the item dies and has to go back for service, then you pay again on the return trip. You are giving your business to the US, last time I checked you were asking Canadian experts for their opinions. You should be shopping in Canada.

I agree, I should have got the seperate component 5x7's.. Didn't even think about that, but no worries I'm sure it will still be loud.. I'm mostly worried about what amp will be needed to power those, and what would be too much overkill for those speakers.. I think the guy said they are 35 watts rms..

As for Ebay, I've going to find out about the customers, brokerage and shipping fees for sure, and then take the no warranty clause into consideration too. If you know some good prices in Canada, I'd really like to know where to shop.

As for the subs, if the kickers aren't great for the 94 mustang, what 2 10's would be a better fit with better sound?

Also, which Eclipse cd player did you have in mind?

Thanks

Check the regular places like, Future Shop, Best Buy, Local dealers, I have found that 2001 Audio Video gives me the best prices on Alpine equipment.
As for buying on ebay, my entire family shops online regularly, including ebay, with very few problems over the last few years. It's your money spend it wisely.
Determine how much space you want to give up for the subwoofer enclosure and start researching. There are literally hundreds of good brands to choose from and all can sound good to great if set up properly. Kenwood amps are great for the price, but they are a little generous with their ratings.
