Hey all....just a few questions I need answered. I used to be into car audio a while back, but then I had to buy a house, had a baby....you know how it goes. Anyways, I am not up on all the newest innovations or brands, so I thought I would ask you pros. Here is what I have in my car. It is a 98 Monte Carlo, by the way, and all of the equipment has been aquired over the years.

Old crappy Sony deck (questions about this later)
Old crappy pioneer 6x9's (running off a pioneer 100w amp...left one is blown)
Sony 5.25 door speeks (running off the deck)
300 w Boss amp (yah...I know it ain't that great) pushing 2 12's crunch's in a dual bandpass box.
Old crappy sony cd 10 pack changer that has more mood swings than the wife. (It is picky about reading burnt cds)
Sirius sattelite radio (Audiovox PNP3)

OK...let the questions begin.

First off, I am going to try and get ahold of a Pioneer cd head unit. I have a spare changer that I can always hook up in place of the sony changer. What is a good head unit for a reasonable price? (200 new...or even a used unit on here in the buy/sell forum)

Secondly, what is a half decent pair of 6x9s? Please remember that they are mainly for mid and highs, and I am only using a 100 w amp, so I don't need a crazy pair that can handle 1000 w each. I am not too keen on ear piercing highs, either.

Thirdly.....the dual bandpass takes up a ****load of room in the trunk. It pumps pretty good, and the bass is nice....but I need to know if there is anything new out there that will pump some nice bass, but will take up a lot less space. I have no problem even going to a single woofer, and bridging the amp....just so long as I can gain a bit of space.

OK...let the discussion begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. Oh, not sure if it makes a difference, but I mainly listen to the funk, deep house and funky disco loud.

As far as the CD player goes, what Pioneer CD changer do you have? That will depend if the current models can directly control it or not.

what kind of bandpass box are you using? and why that type?

and you said you want highs on 6x9s??? I take it you want 3-ways then? Do you not have the budget to ditch rears or do you just like the fill?

hehehee... I'm a sick man...

Oh alright... something usefull that's on topic... ummm...

I love my 6x9's http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/pr...&productId=737 They're kickass. Rated for 300w, 3-way, massive magnet on back, crossover on board. They weren't outrageous in price either. The only downside, I tried giving them only 50w each, they sounded quite weak. Now each has 100w on tap, and like I said, kick-butt.

the alpine s series 6x9 and 51/4 are great for the money( retail for about 120.00 and 90.00 respectively), handle about 50 watts rms and sound very nice.

If you get an mp3/wav cd deck you may not want to even bother with your changer since you can burn up to 10-15 cds on one disc. Pioneer dehp 4700 mp does a nice job and has a lot of features for under 200.00 cdn retail.

sell the 2x12s and the bandpass to some kid in the neighbourhood and get a 1.5 cube ported box with a decent 12" (infinity ref 1230w) and bridge your amp. It will sound nice for a total of under 700.00 and I'm sure any backseat passengers will thank you for not getting rid of your 6x9s.

I got a poineer 4600 mp and it's a great deck for the few months I had it going but I'm thinking of selling it because I want a deck with 3 preouts because I want to run all amps for my next setup

I was looking at a nice pair of Infinity 6x9 3 ways today. They were about 120 bux at Best Buy. What are your thoughts on those? I have always liked Infinity.

I think I will go with just the MP3 deck and if the changer doesnt work with it, I will forget the changer all together.

What are the facts based on the "thump" with a dual bandpass box, (2 12's, ported on the sides and plexiglass in front) versus a regular sealed box? Again, it is in my trunk, and all I need it for is the bass.
