First, thanks to everyone for their great help on my other questions.

I'm just trying to figure out which sub would go best with a Sony XMD400PS. The amp says:

2 OHM Output Power - Full Range 400 Watts
4 OHM Output Power - Full Range 200 Watts
Total Max Power 800 Watts

So should I be looking at a 400 watt sub to get the best bang for my buck? Or should I be looking at something over 800 watts? How do the ohms factor in?

Thanks again guys!

My rule is usually match the powe with the sub, I have a kicker comp vr 400rms, so the amp I bought puts out 400rms, then your not over/under powering it... and gives it what it wants... and don't look at the peak ratings look at rms ratings. as for Ohms say you have an amp I.e the one u list above... a normal single sub is usually 4ohm... soo to that amp u will only get that much power out of it, but if you had a dual voice coil sub that will let u wire it to 2 ohm you will get more power to that single sub, then you would if it was a single voice coil.. kinda like bridging I guess... I ain't no exprect this is my ROUGH theory lol

Look for something in the area of 400 watts. Doesn't necessarily have to be 400, but in the 300-500 ball park. This way if your giving the sub(s) the correct amount or more, you wont have to compensate the lack of loudness the sub has by blasting the gain, sub control, bass boost, which slowly kills the sub. Be careful when setting your gain, sub control etc... I had to learn the hard way and would hate to see anyone else go through blowing there subs. So properly power your sub and you'll be set. Kinda off track here, buy a sub that has dual 4 ohm coils in order to get the most out of your amp. I hope this helps ya out a bit, good luck.
