Fuse for power wire
You could start with a small fuse size and whenever you blow it then just move up to the next size.
In any event maybe you should consider a breaker.
I think breakers take longer to break. and are re-settabel.

MECA has done away with using amplifier ratings in our SPL contests and have gone with fuses for determining system power. This has had ZERO affect on SPL scores and has eliminated the concern over amplification modification.
So unless you pick the wrong size fuse it should have zero affect other than a feeling of safety.

the way i was taught was to add up the total amps of the fuses in your amplifier and use that size of a fuse under the hood.
i.e. 2x 30a fuses in the amplifier would mean a 60a fuse under the hood.
i mean its probably not correct to go bye but i do and so far its been fine.

Fuses act as a bottle neck for current and usually cause a voltage drop of .1 or .2volts..
this can drop SPL scores...
If its a concearn using a circuit breaker can be the way to go... but if you need several 200A breakers it can get expensive...

so no one can tell me why in SPL comps they docl you points for fusing the power wire???

In SPL comps, that inch of fuse that the current passes through is going to cause a lot larger of a voltage drop than that same current going through an inch of 1/0 wire. The difference will be very small, but the fact is there is a difference.
edit: they don't dock you points for fusing a wire, but your spl score (decibals) will be lower.
