Hello, I bought a Sony xplod head unit and it gets really hot. The back heatsink gets too hot to touch. Normal?

also if you're running some newer speakers like the one from Infinity , they are 2ohm and will cause this.

No, not normal. Thanks for waiting the whole 9mins before you bumped your own thread though.

Take it back to the shop that installed it and ask what's up.

Ok. Yes there is a lot of breathing room.

I have only have 2 speakers hooked up right now. They are just old 40W pioneers. Not sure on resistance.

I installed this myself.

What makes sony head units bad. I just bought this because it was cheap.

My Eclipse CD5030 was too hot to touch one time, But this was in the winter and I was pumping hot air through the vents...

Never had a problem with it...

Most decks will get hot to the touch. Usually because we drive them too hard.

Recommendations:

A) Keep the colume down
B) Amplify the speakers.

Hot to the touch, sure, but it should not get too hot to touch. Consider turning it down.
