Help/Direction

I currently have old stuff in my car. Focal K2P Power front, Focal coaxial in rear, Alpine 9835, PPI DCX 600.4, Rockford Fosgate Amp and Infinity Sub. The Rockford drives the sub. The PPI drives all 4 speakers. I plan to get rid of everything except sub and fosgate amp. Not sure yet whether I will keep the Focals or install new Hertz HSK 165XL that I bought from a friend for only $200. I have the new Clarion CZ702 for head unit.

Can someone please explain to me exactly what does it mean when you go active? Something about driving woofer and tweeter separately will give you better sound? I am trying to decide between the Soundstream REF4.920, Human Reign, Arc KS300.2 or Boston Acoustic GT2300. Does it matter if I buy a 2 channel or 4 channel amp to run active?

Maybe just make it easy on my self and buy the Alpine PDX V9 and push 200 watts to Hertz/Focal and drive sub with 500 watts.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

An active system has a separate amplifier channel for each speaker. The crossover duties are handled by or before the amplifier. No passive crossovers are used.
