help please

I had a system installed yesterday, so here is the run down. I have a 2012 ram 1500 crew cab and i already had most of the system kenwood dd, jl xr 525-cw, mb quarts dsf213 and a jl 12w3 in a box. All i needed was an amp an everything installed. I went with a jl hd900/5 which should be plenty for an average system. So heres my problem, after i payed for the bill which was 1536.00 the owner came up to me and said the amp is (a loaner) so it was used cause the hd is on back order. They had the truck for two days and i was down there 3 different times checking on it, i even was holding the seat back while the installer was putting in the amp and he never said a damn thing about it being used. Either you have a new amp in a box or you dont its pretty simple. He said it could be a month or so before he gets anew one he wasnt sure. The system sounds like a 300.00 dollar system from walmart, if everything was brand new it would be right at 3000.00 dollars. It should rock my truck, hell the mirrors dont even vibrate. Then i guess the deck has an ipod connector, so instead of finding a place to run it where i can reach it, they cut a huge hole in my glove compartment to fish that long connector thru. Its at least a 1by1 inch hole out of the side of it. Im pissed of and dont know how to go about getting this fixed.

Can you see the hole in the glove box or is it on the inside? Unfortunately, if it is inside then that is somewhat common. We usually ask where the customer wants the iPod cord and if it is in something like a dash pocket, it does often require a hole. A good installer will try to minimize the hole and its location though.

What amp did they put in?

From what I read of the story, you paid for something new to be put in your truck. They accepted the cash for this and did not put that new amp in. That point alone should be rectified immediately or you should make a filing in small claims court or complain to the better business bureau or something.... (your judgement here).

On top of this, it appears to you (unless we see a pic of the hole you're complaining about we can't rightfully judge) that it was a shoddy install for a $700 bill ($1500 minus the $800 amp cost). That's a separate but related issue. It can probably be dealt with during the same process as above, but it's much more of a subjective claim and most energy should be on the first issue of product misrepresentation.

Lastly, it sounds like you're not pleased with the sound of the system installed. That could be install-related or it could be your aural judgement of the system. I have no way of knowing right now. You'd need to tell us more before we can judge that.

Lets see if the shop comes through with what they said they would ... didn't have the amp in stock, tried to make you happy and let you run some sort of display model.
I'm assuming you're going to get a call when the new one is in OR check in with them by phone to see when this will happen.

When you're there, mention you're not happy with the sound, maybe they can tweak something, maybe they can talk this out with you.

Lets just see if they come through before you go "taking them to court" ... that's a little much IMO.

Cord through glove box is common, shop did that to me as well. I don't even remember them telling me, they just did it.

So I've went back to the shop twice on sat, first time they messed with it of course it still sounds like crap as far as I'm concerned. I went by a buddy's house and he has a system in his canyon so I could compare mine to his. He has a Sony deck that runs his jl mids and tweets and a mtx box with a 10 and a kove amp. His kills mine, so I went back to the shop and the owner must of spent an hour jacking with it and turning the volume up all the way now my door speaker is blown and my sub is popping like its blown. I can always smell the amp so tonite I drove home from work with the stereo on but the volume all the way down, when I got home I felt the amp and it was hot with out it even playing. So what the hell is going on and if the amp is messed up is that why my speakers are blowing.

Okay, I can't comment on all that's going on right now, because there's a lot of issues that could be but you need to go back to the shop, tell them you're not happy with what's going on and it has to be fixed.
You didn't pay all this money for sub par performance.

You may need to go somewhere else to have all of this corrected if this "shop" really isn't much of a shop. I'm just assuming they're good, but if all of this is happening, maybe they are complete crap and just trying to take money where they can.
You wouldn't have these problems at Future Shop even.

You're not smelling the amp, you're likely smelling your subwoofer being overworked. If it's "popping" you've got bad connections or something, it shouldn't be doing. Maybe the amp is wired wrong, too low, that's why it's always hot, I don't know. Shouldn't be hot all the damn time. Blown doors will happen if you're blaring them and they can't handle it. They are what, 75/80 rms? It's an upgrade but it's not concert loudness ...

Got that right. Future Shop's point of sale system and internal policies won't allow selling and installing something that isn't in stock. Only independent 'specialists' can pull that BS on an unsuspecting consumer.

Personally - I would tell the guy you are coming in on Saturday and leaving with one of three things:

(1) the gear you paid for, working properly

(2) your money

(3) a piece of his ***

their choice.

Exactly, it's that bad so you need to step up your demands here.
Sounds pretty bad so, I agree with Dukk 100%
