HU options on brand new 2011 Ford Edge SE
Ok this is for the Mrs. first off, biggest concern of hers is BT built in(NO DAMN DONGLES) with stream capability on her Iphone 4, double din with touchscreen and maintain Steering controls(I know needs an adapt.), No Nav. Price...willing to pay for the quality, considering the Sony "My Ford Touch" is $$$$ as an option I know it will cost me.
For now it will be with the stock speakers that will be upgraded(including a Sub) as we go along. My biggest concern is the fact that the stereo is built in to the molding(see attach) and putting in a HU will cause the dash to look nasty.
Just looking for recommendations atm and if anyone has worked on a new Edge potential hiccups that an installer may come across so we don't have any surprises. My wife was just window shopping at FS and as she made inquiries she was told that her vehicle has some sort of "chip" in it that would need to be taken out as the "chip" controls all the audio and would need to be replaced with standard audio wires(harnesses and the like) for $130.
Thx

This is why GM Trucks are better >_>
Kidding, sort of. They're lazy so they keep things somewhat simple. Whereas Ford likes to push the envelope and usually causes more trouble than it's worth.
However I would look at Pioneer double DIN units for that slot, it would integrate well but I can't say that with certainty, the only area that has me concerned is the rounded edges on the trim... le sighe.. Inset Head unit is so much simpler.
My first stop for adapters and wiring harnesses would be Scosche.

I have the CX-7 which is the sister vehicle to the Edge. I had a scosche wiring harness and it was missing the illum and Nav wires (apparently all the scosche ones do even though they're listed on the package).
Go metra, especially for the AWSC control.
I agree with the Pioneer rec though. Check out the 3200BT.
