If you have quality amps, with high S/N ratio, low THD headunit, quality RCA's, line drivers are just an addition to this.

It doesnt make any audible difference in a car audio environment.

Fine tune???

Jstoner,

It lowers the analogue floor noise. It's very important for a HU with 2v or less. I recently heard an SQ car with the Alpine D310(2vouts), F#1 H900, and Audison amps. The owner changed the HU from the D310 to the matching F#1 CD player. Since doing so, his floor noise was inaudible from the last time heard it.

WIKI search:In electronics, a line driver is an amplifier used to improve the strength of an analog or digital signal at its source by driving the input to the transmission line with a higher than normal signal level. This increases the quality of a transmission over a long run of cable. An example of a line driver is an amplifier used to extend the range of an RS-232C digital signal beyond 50 feet (~15 m) while maintaining a specified bit error ratio. In mobile audio, use of a line driver allows an amplifier's gain to be set lower, reducing low-level noise. Line drivers may also be used to enhance distortion in guitar amplifiers.
