JL 12W7 worth it?? what is comparable?
The link he posted was actually the link to the side by side, spec by spec comparison of the two woofers...
There's as many woofers out there as there are opinions on them... As for which woofer "sounds better" than the next it's a little hard to say. Even though one may out perform the other someone may like the sound of something else. Just like some people swear by Aluminum tweets and others love their silks and yet others use horns...
This post started out with someone asking what they should do... As I said before if you're not happy once you get your current system transfered over, then go and listen to as many different woofers as you can to see what suits your own personal taste.

I think its hard to justify the price of the W7 when the 9500 is close enough it doesnt even really matter.
Personally based on price/performance I'd go with the 9500, because in that respect it kicks the JLs a$$.

sorry to be off topic , but have you looked at the w12gti from jbl? they are friggin amazing!they are also WAY cheaper than the jl.not sure about the prices on the mtx.we installed one in a 2003 mustang,2.5 ported with a bpx 1100.1, and it was the loudest single sub system i have heard in 20 yrs.the sound quality was excellent as well.

And everyone who is discrediting the MTX VS JL comparison should maybe read it for what it is..
The MTX has a larger voice coil.
THe MTX has a larger power handling
THe MTX has a larger linear excursion.
ECT> ECT> ECT>
All that test is are specs that JL has released Vs the Specs MTX has released. Based on what they are comparing, the test is completely accurate.
So what part is Biased?
+ Last time I checked MTX retails the 10" 9500 for 40% or more less than the JL..
Even if the JL is a little better for argument sake. is it 40% better?
Not sure why everyone immediatly discredits MTX. Back in my car audio selling days MTX always was the best bang for the buck. From what I see it still is.! [/QB]

They compare only the 10" drivers. There's a reason for this.
Xmax - Show me a DUMAX or other third party verification of MTX's numbers. The fact that they are represented in inch measurements is nearly laughable.
Xmech - Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I could care less about Xmech. It's not linear, why would I care about it?
Thermal handling concerns itself more with box design than anything else. If you blow a high end driver in anything other than an SPL arena (and yes, there are better drivers for that) then you're an idiot. Pretty simple.
MTX takes a shot at the surround because of its inconvenience to install? How about the linearity of the W7's suspension, the increased Sd resulting from its design?
How about high intermodulated distortion due to the coil not being centered, and the linear spider assembly.
Where are the BL curves, Cms, Kms?
I'm not saying the 9500 isn't a good driver, this little ad of theirs is simply a marketing ploy. It's not a W7 killer. Not even close. But if you like it more, I don't care. I like plenty of subs more than the W7.
exactly what i was saying, the spec to spec comparison shows only what MTX wants it to show. im not bashing MTX either, im just saying i wouldnt base my choice on an MTX or JL website comparison. you should at least find a third party comparison to help him make his choice, or better yet test them both out. its stupid to say that this driver or that driver is 'far surperior' than the other without looking into the install that pocket aces is going to use. what type of power hes gonna use with his subs and what not. its not fair to say to him go buy the 9500 man its gonna destroy a W7. as for price, yeah the price is insane for a W7, that does play a huge role in the decision.
I still think he should look into the braham, see what it has to offer. thats my sub of choice, its in the same bracket as the MTX and W7, and i believe its the cheapest.(may be wrong on that one).

* I agree on Xmax - why can't they quote in M&Ms like everyone else? A company that quotes everything in SI units except for Xmax in mm is looking to show the consumer a 'big number'. Who's doing the marketing now?
* Mechanical power handling is affected by box design. Thermal is not - well unless you want to count that nanopercentage that a vented box might cool a coil over a sealed box...
* Definitely - the linearity of the JL surround makes it easier to install
It's a PITA to put in. That's just fact. And the rest does not warrant response.
For someone who doesn't care you seem to be getting kinda worked up about it.
So far I have to agree with Rubberguy - ignore this entire thread and go listen to as many woofers as you can.
