by retail what I meant is I dont buy from future shop and best buy, big chain stores, I dident mean local shops, my bad for the wording I used, but I do notice that some shops talk about products that they do not even have, not all shops but most ive been to do, I had a guy try to sell me 2 p3 subs and a 600W rms mono amp... what is the point of spending that much money on subs when ur going to only use 600 Rms out of a potential 1000W , I know its all about the box and what not but does that make any sense?

I can't tell you how much I paid because I own the shop. The retail on it is $700.00. The 980 is last years product. They don't make it or an equivalent anymore...to my knowledge.
If you're looking for a tweaker deck, it's really nice! Eclipse has a comparable product as does Alpine as long as you get the Imprint box.
As for those MB's, you'll need a nice amp with some good headroom to make them sound great. I can't think of any headunit that would do them any justice.
