Watched and "used".

It's true a lot of companies share build houses and some parts, but not all the designs are exactly the same. Even little choices in parts can affect all aspects of a speaker. Some share designs and use different parts, some use different designs and use similar parts... it just makes things cheaper for the consumer. If it works well then it shouldn't really matter. There is way too much hype for a lot of things though.

Thats not to mention companies that are bought for their nameplate *just to open another can of worms here*

Excellent points from everyone here...

I think there's room for all though, and many companies start out doing the 'copy and paste' thing, get a bit of capital, and slowly build their R&D dept because they themselves know that a better job/design can be fabricated. If the design works out, they get bigger and begin to expand their ideas. Fresh ideas comes innovative product.

Its those folks who are in it for the long haul who you still see around. Others are in it for the buck - get in, sell, get out. But that's capitalism.

Best,
Mark

... And that brings me to say that I have caved in from peer pressure and have revealed the first raw proto of the budget SPL driver Loyd and I have been working on.

For those who are the least bit curious, I posted links on SSA:

TeamSSAudio: -> Budget SPL Driver
