My main problem with E-tailing is that Mr. E-tailer isn't stuck at a shop all day answering stupid questions, fixing problems and educating consumers. Nope Mr. E-tailer gets to sit at home and count the money he does not have to spend on wages, lights, insurance, phone bills, advertising, shop materials, employee "accidents", WCB, taxes, and on and on... So, if you think about it E-tailing hurts our economy because it steals the marketshare of businesses that pay wages to workers (you know, you and me) and does not contribute its fair share of taxes, thus making you and I have to fork over evermore to make up for their missing share -- Just my 2 cents.
First I'd like to thank Paul for mentioning me. I understand that the majority of industry people in here work for a shop, so I'm going to rub a bunch of you the wrong way, but the hard facts of life are that e-tailing is here to stay.

You can try and fight it as much as you want, but in the end people will shop on line.

Some will do it for a better price, some will do it because they just want something different from their friends, and others will do it because the local shops don't have what they want/need.

I am 100% with you guys in saying that local shops SHOULD be supported. Unfortunately that's not always possible.

In my neck of the woods there is not a SINGLE retailer that cares about SPL.

So how am I supposed to support the industry when there is nothing around for me to support?

Sure, I could go to those shops and special order everything, but you can be darn sure that they are going to mark it up at a premium because it's a special order item.

Not only that, but the reason I even started my business in the first place is because I had access to some products that no other shop or distributor in ALL of North America wanted to carry!

I am the only place in North America that you can buy 6" Aeroports from. (I believe Lightning had some, but they've been disco'd) ... I am also the only place you can buy Magic Mate 400 from, which is a hardcore deadener for SPL competitors.

Since no shop in the entire continent wanted to carry it, we should be without? That doesn't make sense.

So Mike, you think you know me and the business of e-tailing? I'm sorry but most of what you listed there is wrong.

First, I don't just sit around waiting for cash to roll in. I have a regular 8-4 job. 2loud4you.ca is my SECOND job. So you get to work your regular 8-10 hour work day and go home. I work mine and then go home and work an extra 5 hours just about every night!! (yeah, the gf loves it!)

I don't have to pay insurance or a phone bill? Actually my house insurance has been increased because I'm now running a business from it. And the phone bill? Don't even get me started. Most of your customers are local, mine are ALL long distance calls.

I won't even get in to the part where you think I don't pay taxes. That's just ridiculous.

Oh, and I am 100% authorized for everything I sell. Wouldn't have it any other way!

^^^ Jordy, are we all allowed to have a sig like yours now? No disrespect in the question either. I want to be on an equal and level playing field.

Yes... you've always been allowed to post your company logo in your sig.

Just no "come buy this product from us" or "We have a huge sale this Sunday!!" type stuff

interesting points JordyO, I may not agree with most of your points; however, I do acknowledge what you have to say and accept that my view may not be entirely correct either.

So I guess we can agree to disagree

Damn... things are a LOT more civil in this section. I think we should consider tossing anyone who isn't an industry member from the board
