Plexi would be very expensive. I was shopping for some and the place I found priced it at ~$9 ft^2 for 5mm (<1/4") thick. They didn't have any thicker.
Lexan was more$

I am trying to look online, how much is this Baltic birch wood? I would be interested just because it's for my front speakers in my home theater so I can use mdf but I would rather a lighter wood and does this stuff finish up nicely? If I wanted to stain it or something?

Watch out for the light weight MDF and particle board. You cant really torque a screw in there more than once. Plexi has a potential for spider/ compression cracks

I mean these all work but watch for the shortfalls.
