Oh, and zzzzzzzzz, top down you can still hear and feel the bass great.

as it sits without flipping any seats or anything it does a 135.something db at like 40 somehting hz(i forget exactly, cuz its not my truck, its my bros, and i was just messing around).
so far overpowering or clipping and unloading the sub because theres no pressure against it..........smart idea.

Yeah, just like that but with a couple differences - I like to close off the tailgate side so all the sound goes forward and I like to port it when possible

You know Jeep was semi smart putting the stock sub location where they did... facing the driver in the center console. Only problem is they used a 6" driver with a magnet thick as a pancake. I replaced mine with 8"(ED 9kv.2), MTX mono amp(300w) and I get the tightest bass I've ever felt or heard(SQ wise, not MAX SPL wise). This is not ground shaking bass obviously but you can definately feel it in this position with our without the top on. If you're interested an 8" sub will fit but you have to do a fair amount of cutting to the stock sub box or fab up your own.

The bass would load off the floor and be much more consistent, even with the top off. A possible side benefit is getting some air moving around the amps under the seat.
Agreed! I tried several different setups when I had my Jeep and the above configuration produced the best results. It's never going to sound AS good with the top down but that is just the nature of the beast. You could use existng box and seal off the rear trunk space...kind of give it it's own roof to compensate for loss of SPL when the top if down.
