I've done very well in USACi SQ events and I ran a single 12"L7 last season and now run 2.

The leading SQ competitor in Florida (I believe it's Florida, foggy memory), is using three L7 10"s.

there's no right or wrong answer here, you just have to try it. Good/ great sound is possible with just about any brand and model of equipment. I've heard all kinds of equipment sound excellent, everything from Jensen to even Pyramid(though I had lots of reliability issues with the latter). It's all in the set up, and what you like. If you ask 1000 car audio dudes what's the best sounding anything, you'll probably get a fair mix of all the common brands/models that are being used. The fun part is actually making whatever equipment you have, sound the way YOU want it to sound!!!
