New to Car Audio...Need to be Pointed in the Right Direction
#11
Okay. I probably will look into deadening the doors then, maybe the firewall too.
And I do believe my dad has a set of subs from my stepmom's old corvette...maybe I could make up a new box for behind the seat and stick them in it once I switch my components into the doors. I think he said he has an amp for them too...would I need an amp for them, or would my head unit be able to deliver enough power?
If I do need the amp, and it's only a 2 channel (enough to power two speakers? not totally sure), is it okay to run my other components just from the head unit?

For now I would start with the doors, it makes the biggest difference in the sound.....the firewall can wait till you strip the interior out completely and do the entire cabin.....
It's better to run the subs off the amp, the deck doesn't have enough power for the job.
Depending on the subs impedance, you may be able to wire them to the amp in a way which will give you more volume.....we will need to know the brand and model number for both the amp and the subs to tell for sure. This will also help decide on the enclosure type and size.
Don't forget if you want to use the amp you will need to get an install kit for it....power, ground and remote wire along with some RCA cables to connect it to the deck.....
Running the components off the deck is fine for now.
Let us know when you have this info and we'll go from there......

All right, thanks a lot! really appreciate it.
One more thing (well, maybe one, more might come of it). My doors only have half-panels. So the lower part of the door is just metal, so I couldn't really put dynamat or whatever product I choose over it, unless I carpetted over top of it, which I don't really want to do.
Would it be okay to put the dynamat on the inside of this same sheet of metal? So it would be on the inner metal of the door, but facing the outer part of the door rather than the cabin.

Before replacing the lower door skin, the speaker was actually down there...which is why I'm not sure about putting my components in the doors still, just because they would be so low.
This vehicle is just not built for a sound system haha.
Would the mids still sound good being down in the lower half of the door?

This also means it is even more important to seal all the holes in the upper half of the door with deadener....do all of this and I'll bet you will be surprised how much better your speakers sound.....

All right.
This actually doesn't sound too bad...I like that if I decided to get rid of the truck for whatever reason, I could make another piece of mdf to fit and carpet it and I could remove my speakers without leaving a giant hole. Of course the door itself will have a hole, but it wouldn't be visible.
What would be the best way to orient my mids and tweets in this panel? Like, should the tweeter be above the mid, below it? And the speakers are basically just going to be aiming across the truck slightly below knee level...will that be all right?
