New setup
First thing, I'm totally new to this forum and car audio in general, so please be forgiving if I make mistakes.
I'm currently looking into getting a new audio system in my car (VW Rabbit/Golf MkV). It's got a double-din factory radio, so I'm thinking about getting a nice double-din unit to keep the entire look consistent. I've heard that the stock door speakers have a reasonable sound quality, so I don't plan on changing those at the moment.
So far, the item's i'm considering are:
Pioneer AVIC-D3 (out sometime this month, still waiting on it)
Rockford Fosgate P325.1 Amplifier
2x Rockford Fosgate P2D410 (10" 4ohm DVC)
My questions are...
Am I forgetting any major items that I need to look into?
Are there products that you could recommend over these that are similar in cost/performance?
What are some good shops in and around Vancouver, BC, that I should talk to or should I suck it up and purchase/install the system at Visions, A&BSound, or Futureshop/Bestbuy?
Thank you in advance.

Your sub/amp set-up is off. Your amp is only 175w RMS @ 4ohm. This is not enough power to get those subs going. You can wire those subs in 1 ohm or 4 ohm. If you want to stick with those subs, I'd get a bigger amp that has more juice @ 4ohm. To suggest other set-ups. I have had the same 2 12" Alpine type E's for 5 years and they are by far the best bang for your buck.

First question I have is what are the long term goals of the system? Are you interested in a system that sounds good, can be heard from blocks away, perhaps one that takes up not much space? Lets get some more information from you so that we can make a good recommendation on equipment. Do deals on last years model equipment interest you?

cwilkes13: Oops I didn't notice the 4ohm restriction, although there are P2D210's with 2ohm resistance and equal advertised specifications.
MR2NR: I want a system that sounds good for sure, though that definition surely changes from person to person. I find that the stock system is just too lackluster for me to enjoy it properly. Older model years is fine with me, I'm really just looking for some good audio quality, don't really want much bling in my trunk. Space is a bit of a concern, and to this end I was looking at shallow subwoofers previously, but I don't have enough knowledge to pick out any specific shallow subs.
Also, another question. For custom subwoofer enclosures, does shape matter, or is it just interior volume? In my trunk there are depressions in the side that are shallow but have a pretty large total area.

The shape of the box is not that critical on overall output of the driver. It is far more important that the proper volume of air is in the enclosure, that the encosure is properly constructed, ported (if ported) and sealed (if sealed). Screw up on the box and all the work you did was for nothing. Check your PM's and drop me a line if you like. I am headed home now for the next 2 hours and then off to work at the bar. Drop me your ph# by PM if you like and I will give you a call.

this is just personal opinion, but I would also get an amp to run your front speakers. Deck power is kinda sucky, and if you want well-balanced sound with 2 10's you're going to need some more power for mids/tweets. Crossing-over the factory speakers will also let them play louder and cleaner as they're not killing themselves trying to pump out bass.
