That's the ticket.....if the new box has the port (round or slotted) firing to the rear the same as the driver, you should hear a difference right away.

interesting... i would have figured if the airflow had a more direct path (into the cabin of the vehicle) it would be best for SQ and SPL.. i guess it dont work like that. yeah i will be building another box, but probably not for awhile i have alot of work to get done to the car.. its kind of- a restoration project of sorts. all my gear is in a '91 Sunbird until the Cavalier is all done.

I was reading a post a couple of days ago.. about the bass wave lengths with depth, and time it takes to intensify, etc. what I find with the box ported in the back of the box (which i realize now is a no-no) is that the bass actually sounds louder outside the car than it actually does inside. it is probably because of where i have the port at and the fact that it is tuned to 30Hz i assume. but yea, that is weird man. the bass seems to be loudest 10 or so feet away from the car, so obviously the bass doesnt intensify until farther along... and the last i checked they dont ever measure SPL from outside your car do they? but yea, bottom line i will eventually give your suggestion a try. I never built a slot-ported box before, so i may end up making a similar box to mine with the regular port instead.. wow, that was quite the book i wrote there lol.

Slot port is simple math. The port length stays the same. The port area stays the same. Figure out the area of your round port (pie * radius ^ 2) and this then gives you a port area. Now you can take any two numbers x * y to equal that value and you have a slot port.
